it's Maas van Beek (59) spinning 80 x 14 and he's aiming to go for it in La Paz, January 2015
Is he on the biological passport programme?

and he had 5 increments instead of 4 between the five minute marks on his wheels. Sign of cheating for sure…
Seriously - I think Jens has just flung open the door for a whole heap of people to have a go.
Chapeau for ending a career that way..

^This.
Obree was quicker on his sweet steel fixeh 20 years ago.
And I bet Boardman's outstretched arms weren't worth 5kmh.
Within a year I reckon we'll see it beaten, in order, by :
Cancellara
Wiggins
Tony Martin -

Agree with that, in that order too.. (maybe not within a year though)

I suspect half the riders in the Tour de France peloton could have done what he did. I'm pretty sure neither he nor Trek would have attempted it had they not been certain it was doable. It's a very clever marketing move by them both. I imagine David Millar is kicking himself that he didn't think to do it. Of course he would have needed a mirrored track to enjoy it to the full.

"Crankset: SRM/Shimano 9000, 177.5mm"
I thought long cranks had gone the same way as skinny rims...

The bit where the commentator said "it really is a race against time now"
yes.

I enjoyed it, I routed for Jens, you could see it wasn't easy for him but he pushed through and delivered.
He said, afterward, that he expected Wiggins, Cancellara etc to really take it up a notch - that's a pretty reasonable grasp on where his record stands I submit.
It was a nice end to an entertaining career.

Jens is oldschool (and I bet he did it on skinny rims too).

One turn of the crank per hour..

I routed for Jens
Could he really not find his way around the velodrome by himself?
-
• #65
How many attempts by dopers?
-
• #66
Three - Moser, Indurain and Rominger.
-
• #67
The Three Conconis.
-
• #68
Now, how many left rode positions now banned?
-
• #69
Both Obree's and Boardman's 1996 attempt.
Which means Boardman's 1993 record remains the absolute record, no?

And I bet Boardman's outstretched arms weren't worth 5kmh.
Maybe not, but combined with his bike they explain why he didn't get near that when riding the Athlete's Hour.

Not banned or now banned?
-
• #72
Ninja edit.
What 1996 attempt?
-
• #74
Given that he later failed an EPO test you can add Sosenka to the list of doped riders.

Anyway, my point is the previous records are all set by dopers or in currently banned positions so I'm glad to see the record 'reset' and hope some proper TT guns have a crack.
Moser was faster on 'similar' material no? or is the large rear wheel effect that big?
