I use Bagaboo velcro straps on my polo bike, they're nice but they fell apart quite quickly and I had to get a crafty friend to resew them. I use cages and straps on my fixed and swear by them, I tried clipless pedals but the shoes are gross and loads of hassle imo. I couldn't skid with them on either which was rubbish ;)
Pop down to polo on Sunday at Preston Park at 1pm to meet a load of folks who ride fixed (and have a game of polo!).

Live in London but originally from Brighton, I often come down with my bike but never see any else on a fixie, will keep an eye out next time.

What kind of gear ratio are you guys running? I've been thinking of building a fixed bike but with all the hills here its hard to decide on what to get. Any help?

I've been rocking 47:16 for years. Can climb most hills at a push, tend to take shallower, longer routes if possible.

last time i was in Btown i had quite a bit of fun 51x17, good all rounder

51:17 sounds too high. Can't imagine getting up to the station quickly in that or 47:16.
44:17, 47:18, 51:18, combinations around 2.6:1 ratio must be better all-rounders. -

Spin to win, that what your knees will be telling you after a few years of grinding up the hills of brighton! Around 70 gear inches works well for me as I go up big hills every day, and my knees are nice and working still!

Imperial measurements were commonly used up until the late nineties....
and if your talking to track riders you will find that its all about gear inches, always has been always will. :P -

Anyone up for night ride? Night race? So bored here cycling alone.

Currently riding 44/18 gives a 66" ratio. Not too low for descents and not massive for climbs. At the moment trying to get fit again the smell of the two stroke from the Keirin derny is a becoming a distant memory.

Anyone in Brighton would be so nice and help me with lockring and installation of bb? I just need tools for 10min. I pay in beer or some spare bike parts!

I'm relatively new to Brighton and only just stumbled across this magical corner of the forum.
Are there any fixed rides/meet ups happening in the near future?

there's a Brighton fixie Facebook page that seems to be more active or if you fancy a trip to pompey try southsea fixed gear

No problem
what you riding
Cheers Mark. The chain's definitely too tight atm then. Will fix that up. And pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Restraps - they just feel like they'll hold me in well.
Lesson learnt this morning: Bear Road is not a road to learn to ride fixed. I'd figured this already but know it real good now. Reckon it was amusing for bystanders but scared the hell out of me...
