  • I had a question that I couldn't fit in any of our other threads so I thought I'd start a miscellaneous conversation where we can talk about non bike related things too. Bike related things are fine in here but I guess it'll just be for broader questions. I'll happily take this down if no one sees a point in it!

Anyone have experience with the cycle to work scheme? I've always been curious as to whether it's worth it or not.

  • I really hoped this was going to be a thread about custard doughnuts... @hudsoncjnr @Poppaklump @jdp

  • You can talk about custard donuts if you wish

  • What about the cheese and onion and the salt and vinegar doughnuts that Tesco sell, thoughts on those?

  • I can't say I've tried either, but they both sound incredible!

Co-op do these little cheese and onion puff things that get put in with all of the sweet baked goods and end up having a slightly sweet edge to the pastry, and they're immense #easytoseehowiusedtobesixteenstone

  • All three sound absolutely vile. I'll stick with jam thanks.

  • I've not tried the savoury doughnuts, I'm a little scared that they could taint everything I hold sacred about doughnuts.

  • To paraphrase Joey from the episode of Friends when Rachel makes the "English" trifle...

What's not to like? Cheese? Good. Onion? Good. Dough? Good. Sugar? Gooood.

  • I'm all up for savoury doughnuts, just not those ones. Custard doughnuts are still vile.

So does anyone know anything about the cycle to work scheme?

  • There are 17 pages here : http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/139536/ (CTWS not doughnuts)

  • I'm still not sold, maybe one day I'll brave eating one.

Custard is bullshit, I have no love for that.

Cycle to Work...something I've looked in to but done nothing about, sorry!

  • Thanks Ben, I'll have a read; I didn't get as far as UTFS as I was hoping that people would have experience with local stores etc.

  • Doughnuts with holes in are best. You can thread them over your handlebars.

  • Regular glazed doughnuts all the way. A friend of mines brother is a chef, he makes something along the lines of a steak or mince inside a glazed doughnut. Apparently it's incredible

  • You used to be 16 st?!

  • Yep. First year of uni, with the beer, the terrible diet, and the general laziness/outlook took it's toll on me. I ramped up my road cycling the summer before my final year, played football three times a week in my, and had lost 5 stone before I graduated.

  • Bloody hell! Well done!

I had you down as one of these annoying people who can eat whatever they like and never put on weight!! Haha

I gain weight really easily so I have to make sure I exercise to turn it to muscle or be a fat bastard - I was 17st at one point, I might post a pic but it's not pretty!

It's either exercise or don't eat as much, and I love food too much to do that!

  • Aha, no, I coupld pile it back on if I wanted!

It's either exercise or don't eat as much, and I love food too much to do that!

This is exactly why I do sport - purely to facilitate eating! I think it's a pretty healthy attitude to have - both eating well and exercising hard is certainly better than doing neither.

  • Seriously? I never knew that, never would've thought it either as you're probably slimmer than me!

one of these annoying people who can eat whatever they like and never put on weight!!

    You rang?

Also can anyone reccomend a saddle that isn't like straddling a steel girder?

  • Krispy Kreme........ That is all.

  • Not sure that'd last very long as a saddle, thanks for the input though

  • #wouldrep

    My Concor is lovely mate

  • Custard is bullshit, I have no love for that.

    DTM

  • "Don't waste the good pastrami"

  • Concors are also crazy expensive! I want something comfy that isn't ugly as sin and won't break the bank
