  • Awww, that sucks.

  • Ah, shame. But if you're looking after yourself, there'll be plenty more chances.

    Off on a tangent... http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-running-blog/2014/sep/17/marathon-du-medoc-race-wine-oysters

  • Good article hopefully lots of people read it and let me run the London marathon :)

  • I've been vaguely turning over in my head the idea of trying to run a 3 hour marathon before I hit 40.

That aside, starting to think about being 40 is a little strange to be honest.

    But anyway! Back to running.

  • ^^ You can have my place.

  • Liking those articles both.

There is one good side to withdrawing, of course. Cake, pizza and beer are now firmly back in play.

  • You not entering?

  • Funny you should say that. I've told myself that if I haven't by the end of next year, I've failed.

  • Nah, there's shorter distances to be run faster. Prev plans for a 2015 Ultra likely to be shelved the way things are developing.

  • if it gets off the ground my oct 15 Castleman Challenge long distance race in New Forest will be one Im hassling you lot to come to

  • How long will "long" be?

  • 20k

  • easy nav
    top places
S/W corner of the new forest, Ive got 50 people into it,
just need to s'ton crew to get into the idea of a shared 4 map combo, A2 size Scandie map,
some of them right jobsworths tho,

got o.k off avon tyrell centre to use.
    would be ace.
    watch this space

  • Nursing a blister after spending lunchtime running barefoot by Brockley Park, up and around Tulse Hill and back through central Brixton. Am out of practice and need to remember how much more care is needed on hills. Although part of it is just my feet neediing to toughen up again. When I felt confident enough to run again after accident, I started in Vibrams. Wrong way round, really.

  • Swansea Bay 10k this Sunday, it's going to be perfect conditions and the sub 40 minute pacer is in the same running club as me.

I've only gone under 40 once before in a windy, hilly race, I'm pretty sure I've got a 38 something in me at the moment. Do I go for the safe option stick with the pacer and get a new pb of a few seconds ?

Or, do I go off like a scalded cat with the risk that I blow up and finish in 40 something but still clinging onto the hope that it all comes together and I blow my pb out of the water ?

  • Somewhere between the two ;)

  • Cool, is it a map & compass job then? Blaggable tho?

  • yea, there will be a 12 ish and a 20 k option,
suitable for pairs who might not be orienteers or anyone who can nav on an O.S map,
controls wont be buried in difficult places, (unlike this event Ive planned for 12 th oct which is fiendish for the long courses http://wessex-oc.org/Flyers/DD_2014.pdf ) more like checkpoints

came about as theres no real distance events that runners doing the OMM and other MMarathons can do down here, always have to go up north.
    will let yous know

  • Avon Tyrell is excellent, they've played host to the Enduroman races for the last few years.

  • Prize from RTT arrived. Rarer than a black Norseman Tshirt ;)

In other news, I discovered a pic of a typical pre race checklist, last one vital:

  • @kl being as im produced by the Tyrell Corporation it makes sense to enlist Avon Tyrell

  • Involve an Avon lady and the synergy is perfect.

  • C'mon, someone take these York marathon packs off our hands. You know you want to!
