That's what I started on with my first track bike. Fine once you get going, but swiftly got tiresome around town.
What I have on my actual track bike for pottering around though, and didn't stop me getting up some frankly silly hills in north London

I find it ok if you keep a steady 90-100 rpm, it's when I start to drop a nice steady cadence I get tired. With any luck before next Sunday ill have my new cogs and be back at 74gi (gods ratio)

I'm going to have to give this week's ride a miss unless it changes to a morning ride @jakjakjak

It's also really frustrating not being able to reply to people properly using IE8 at work...
I blame the management.

I can quote posts like that, but the reply button doesn't work, so I can never direct my posts at people!

• #161
That's the new quote

• #162
That's odd. I just replied to you using the reply button.

Hmm, how strange. Maybe it's my PC then...

Dandy Ride - Sunday 21st - leaving from the shop at 16.00 this week to try and finish before dusk.
Good pace (16-18mph) - 30 miles - bit hilly.
Slower ride (leisurely) - no idea how far - or where!
Everyone welcome!

Today's ride, hard work and not much fun...but better than no ride I guess!!
Mountain bike with rubbing disk brakes and tyres without enough pressure...

Really good thanks. Just the five of us on the fast run - Jack, myself, Eva, and two new faces Shane and Bob - but it was a new route, with more rolling hills, twisty turns and bits. Great fun, although a bit windier/greyer than the last few weeks. Hoping the weather doesn't put too many people off - I saw you got your long bibs, so no excuses!
-

I'm used to the wind and rain, I used to play Rugby so I actually don't mind it as long as I'm not cold!
Long bibs and long jersey on their way so I should be fine...do want some different gloves mind, mine are useless...
I'll definitely be there for next week's ride, though I finish work at four so I'll have to find out from @jakjakjak which way you're heading and catch you up!!

Go to planet X for gloves, so many options and all super cheap and really good.

Yeah I get cold really quickly, but don't mind it when I'm out. Got a Sondico baselayer top and compression tights from Sports Direct yesterday, both for 24 quid - bargain! I find layering up works better for me than just having long bibs or a long jersey, plus it helps get rid of the sweat/prevent rain!
I'm sure we can delay it slightly depending on the route length - we finished just before it got dark enough for lights yesterday, but given the rate that the evenings draw in it'll probably be lights weather from about half six next week!
Did ~50 miles on the same GI (38:15) yesterday, it's fucking knackering on the flats trying to keep up with geared bikes. As soon as I dropped off the back and rested a bit it was fine. Back up to 74gi this morning
