  • Does anyone make jerseys for the etiolated?

I vary between medium (usually) and small (Rapha pro-team) for fit on the body - 40" chest and just under 6'2".

However, in order to get a jersey that mainly fits I have to accept that when I ride with normal shorts (as opposed to bibs) the jersey will, when I get off the bike and stand up, leave a gap between bottom of jersey and top of shorts.

Now, this can be tricky to manage if I've left my stick at home, as beating hordes of lust-crazed women away with a mini-pump is draining.

So- jerseys for skinny people, who has seen?

  • De Marchi: I've only got a base-layer and the PT Jersey to go on, but I'm 5'11" with a 37" chest, and both garments were well fitted with sufficient length, even though they were sized as Small.

  • Bumped for Dammit's question. I'm 6' 3" and somewhere around the 37" chest mark. I'm after some long-sleeve windbreaker jerseys for winter, so what I need is not so much a cut favouring a long body, more full blown "lanky as fuck" cut so I don't get cold wrists.

  • Just had a look at De Marchi's stuff and quite like the look of their "safety gilet" http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/de-marchi-safety-gilet-ss14/rp-prod117314
I've always fancied a fully reflective vest rather than a fluro monstrosity having seen runners in them (from a mile off).

I had to laugh at the description though, bearing in mind it's a windproof gilet.

Recommended for wear at about 18–25 °C

It tickled me, as my wife is Italian and that pretty much reflects her opinion of what constitutes chilly weather.

  • I can't claim to be a fully fledged member of the skinny club but as I do have a long torso I do have a need for a long jersey as well.
I have found milltag to be ok, but torm to be better.
They're the best I've found yet but it does mean you're signed up to wool, which can be a pain in the winter/wet months..

  • Ted Baker making cycling clothes is a serious danger to my wallet. Fortunately, none of their gear appears to have been designed by actual cyclists as none of it seems terribly practical.

Chino pockets on cycling trousers? No thanks, I like stuff to stay in my pockets.

(also, nice saddle angle in one of those photos)

    Jerseys with no rear pockets?

    Serious levels of failure.

  • Castelli and assos seem to be the only ones that aren't like a crop top on me when in the right size for my chest/waist/arms

  • it is really hard to find the right fit when choosing cycling clothes, isn't it?

  • Depending on your proportions it might be. I'm 6'2" and haven't had an issue with crop tops.
My length is in the legs though..

  • i am 5.5 and even though i have normal top and bottom always found buying cycling clothes difficult. put it on in the shop it looks fine ride for a week and they seem to shrink in size.

  • ^ Cycling gear tends to be made from fabric that doesn't shrink: man-made fibres generally. So unless you've been buying a lot of merino wool structured garments, you're imagining it.
Or you're washing your gear at very high temperatures.
    Or you're on the wind-up.

  • Theres a investigation at the UCI going on about that kit.

  • To second @Moserism, Torm jerseys are ok for us taller but long-torsoed types (dachshunds?). The Castelli stuff I've tried is a bit, um, 'brief'.

I also have long arms so the cold wrist thing is a problem too. I had to go up one size in the Castelli race cape, increasing flappiness, just to get the sodding arms to come anywhere near the length required.

  • ^ Shit. I'd just resolved to try a Castelli long sleeved jersey in the hope it would be ok. I really can't be arsed with wool. I have a horrible feeling I'd end up sagging the pockets or shrinking it or something.

I'm seriously considering rinsing my bank account ordering a bunch of different jerseys from Wiggle and returning all but one. All the shops in The City seem to be wall-to-wall Altura Night Vision and sod all else.

  • Nuclear option is an extreme weight-gain program to get me up to "normal" proportions. BEEFCAKE!

  • Morvelo Rue women's jersey

  • Condor comes up as a Castelli stockist, sure you could try one on there without bank account rinsage.

As for wool, I haven't managed to shrink my Torm 'sportwool' products...yet.

  • I'm also a beanpole and find torm the best fit out of the other brands I have (morvelo, twin six and milltag), all in M for a 6 foot 1, 10 stone guy. I have three torm jerseys which have been used for the past two years with no shrinking or anything.

  • Oh that is lovely.

  • I have the Stars long sleeve jersey from the Blok range. the inside feels so soft.

  • Thanks, that's a good idea. I've never been to the store so might turn it into a general window shopping opportunity whilst I'm there.

Maybe I should give Torm a try too given the good reviews on here and the reasonable pricing.

  • This popped up on my instagram today and I quite like it (my name is actually Pete so that maybe why).
