• I don't know your housemates girlfriend, and I'm nervous about making gender stereotypes. But is this bike indulging your 90's mountain bike passions rather than the most appropriate/ pretty bike you could build (for the stereotyped girly girl who likes flowers, pink and tassles on her handlebars).

  • She wanted a reasonably lightweight, bombproof commuter for Edinburgh with provisions for mudguard and rack, decent standover and without drop bars. She's been involved throughout the whole process. She picked the frame and went over bar choice with me. And she adores it. Only the XTR was my minor indulgence, because it was practically the same price as modern mid-range stuff, except it's probably better engineered, I doubt you can get better canti brake levers and no doubt it's way better looking.
