  • On a related note, I'm actually using a washer beneath that tension plate, between the spring and the pedal, to reduce the tension of the spring. This allows for much easier clipping in and out.

    Just a tip for anyone that might be finding these a bit tighter than your average ATACs.

  • Yeah, you warned me about it and I've had a bit of tape over the bolt head but it's worn through. They are great pedals other than that though!

  • Do they, the pedals, affect the fold at all? How far do they stick out to the side?

  • Made sense to me. Do the pedals affect the fold of the Brompton?

  • The Ezy version of the MKS pedals are removable, so they don't affect the fold.

  • I've got a pair that did that on their first outing. Bloody crap things.
    I'm never going to get round to sending them back for a refund so if your ever in the Southwark area with tools give me a shout and you can cannibalise the intact pedal of mine.

  • I was a bit wary of tales of the M bars failures. They've been through various redesigns over the years but the basic design is still sharp curves in aluminium, and my scaphoid knows only too well what handlebar failure can result in. I'd recommend you try one of each.
    The S type has a longer stem, and you could also fit certain models of riser - Nitto do one with no sweep that would work.

  • New crankset!! Hollow tech for the win! £59.99 for FSA Gossamer AND bottom bracket on Planet X, including a 50T outer ring which is what I wanted for the brompton. I know FSA Gossamer doesn't have the best reputation but it was cheap, available, I gave it a chance, and so far I'm happy, good finish/machining... I hope it's OK mechanically.
    I was hoping to have the 50T ring on the inner position and have a bigger diameter ring on the outer position , with teeth cut off as a chain guard... but alignment says no. Outer 50T ring in outer position is bang-on inline! Very please with that... I don't care about chain guard after all, none of my bike have any so I'll cope... Sadly I could not go for a test ride, the spare chain I had in stock in my shed was a 9 speed one and didn't fit the SA sprocket (with is new as well). I'm so happy as I've been struggling with the old drive train from 1992 for a while.
    I'll post a picture of my worn off existing chainset and pointy teeth, you'll see why I'm so happy about this. Chain kept slipping and dropping, I arrived everywhere with greasy dirty hands!

    Cranks are 172.5.

  • /\ /\ /\ And also, little question to brommy specialists: on the first picture, does the chain tensioner look at the right place / do I need to get rid of another link on the chain? I have a vague feeling I need to...

  • I think you are right, the tensioner should be a bit higher. Have you still got the old chain to compare against? I looked for that crankset on planetx already back to full price, wanted it for another project.

    I can't compare with old chain unfortunately because part of the operation was to go from 44T to 50T on the chainring (I rode another 3 speed with 50T chainring few month back and was instantly convinced it was right for me)
    Will probably remove a link then...

  • hello Brompton owners

    I know some of you have these pedals: sjscycles.co.uk/mks-urban-ste­p-in-a-platform-pedals-prod31462/ I've lost the tension plate on one (bolt loosened while I wasn't paying attention - but I still have the bolt and washer) and wondering if there is a clever fix? Otherwise I will just hunt for a nut and washer that do the job.

    I think I have a couple of spares

  • cool - I'm sorted for now anyway.
    also for completeness, I emailed SJS to ask if they carried spares, and instead of just saying no, Josh Kydd took the time to work out what normal bits would work and sent a photo. which I thought was nice of him.

    If you use an M4 nut and washer, and an M5 ‘C-form’ washer you can essentially replicate what the plate does. See attached.
