Forgive the slightly inappropriate topic, but I'm selling my excellent condition Nikon D800E:
- £1250 plus shipping. That, I think is a pretty damn good price.
- 1400 (!) shutter actuations (I shot it like a film camera)
- Purchased in November 2012
More details and pictures here.
It might be too pricey or overkill for some, but if you think of it as a compact medium format camera, it really does the business. It's the first digital camera I've used that doesn't make me pine too much for 6x7 film (I'm upgrading).
Some photos:
Great dynamic range. The foreground subjects were completely in shadow to prevent the sky from being blown out, but shadow and highlight recovery in Lightroom/Camera RAW brought everything back:
You can get a very painterly, medium format look from the images:
But with what I consider to be the best auto-ISO implementation on the market, you can work really fast:
And in really low light. This is ISO 2800 at dusk, I could not have done this with my Mamiya kit:
Anyway, if by any chance someone is interested, save me from having to wade through eBay and PM me.

Want
Hmm

You getting a D810?
-
• #7682
Yeah I have a D810 now to complement my Mamiya 7. The difference with the D810 is that the mirror mechanism seems more dampened, the better video options and a bit better autofocus. The noise levels and dynamic range look to be very similar (noise a tiny bit worse, dynamic range a tiny bit better).
My girlfriend, who is also a photographer rolled her eyes, told me I just wanted new shiny toys and is keeping her D800E. Hell, I'm not sure I need the D810, other than I'm starting a few new projects and I do like new toys. Let my impracticality be your gain!

Gear Acquisition Syndrome. You haz it.
Fair play though, if you enjoy/need it and have the means... Its a hell of a camera.

An honest man, I respect that

Does anyone want to buy my 6D so I can get the new X100 when it comes out :)
£900 including 40mm lens. -
• #7686
That's tempting. Been eyeing up 5D mk2's recently. Which 40mm lens?
-
• #7687
Its the f2.8 pancake. One of the sharpest lenses I've ever used.

bloody sideways plane
Soon, this will be fixed.

Shocked it hasn't been merged into this one.
I wouldn't say that I'm shocked, but I agree the two threads should be merged.
-
• #7695
If we're merging those two, why not merge non-digital thread in here as well, and keep all photo talk in one place? It's just tech difference anyway
The two dividing forces, Mr Smyth and GA2G hasn't been around for a while, so there's prob less resistance now?
-
• #7696
I say merge away but keep the film thread independent.
-
• #7697
Yea..
I guess you could even merge analog and digital, as it's "just tech differences", and in the end it's about the pictures innit -
but I guess a lot of the digital people don't do film at all (anymore), so talk about different types of film, developing, scanning, film cameras etc. (which is a good portion of the analog thread) is completely uninteresting to them - so I would suggest not merging the two. -

But picture critique is much better over in non-digi... and I only shoot digi this days...
:(
-
• #7699
..just use some expensive VSCO filters or something, and post your stuff in non-digi

The digital thread pre-dates the film thread so it was a film user who decided there needed to be separate threads. Looking at the discussions in there it's probably for the best. And how you would get a fair consensus on merging, I don't know.
Either way if digital and film are merged then the cat thread is going to have to be subsumed in to the Post Your Pets thread.
Strong panning panorama is strong.
