Sure you're making money on all the tinkering?
-
• #3678
Well not 'making' as a job but yeah not losing either.
There is of course hassle. Plus its so much fun getting to use different things and learning from it.

I think it's cycling jersey at the moments.

That's healthy enough :)

You could have just kept that Caad10 though at the end of the day, worn out some bits and chopped the steerer.
You have pulled the country out of recession with all that buying so cheers for that! :D

Feh, Amey's doing better buying and selling than I am. I just buy and hoard. I've got three sets of wheels in the house that I've never even used. And three pairs here in the garage that I have used but are no longer attached to bikes...

I have space constraint though ..

Got some Dura Ace WH9000-35s. But they're on the Titanium Wonder in Switzerland and fully in use. Of the 'spare' kit, 'fraid not. They're all shallow alloy-rimmed, and either 10 speed Shramano or 11 speed Campag. Soz. Oh, apart from the spare track wheels.

Ironically enough, I think his old CAAD10 is a little shorter in reach than his Madone.

The 35s are the kind of thing I'm thinking. If you have a 'reshuffle' let me know.

Proof the answer to 99% of internet bike fiddling (displacing fitness insecurity) is:
Ride your bike, then some more.

@ Danstuff - rebuilding my steel merckx corsa 01 with modern Campag 11 speed (silver Athena). No wheels purchaed yet but if you have some spare 11-speed compatible wheels that you wanted turning into lira I might be interested. I was thinking of getting some TB14's built up but its not a cheap solution.

Not spare as in available, I'm afraid. I've got a set of Khamsins which are unused at the moment, but they'll be going back on my winter trainer once I've finished off (and, indeed, started) my new winter trainer, which will then have the Campag Powertap wheels currently on the winter trainer. Apart from those, all my wheels are either track or Shramano.

Fair enough. I need to decide on hubs for the TB14's - keep changing my mind depending on how much money I am willing to spend at the point in the month (it decreases in a straight line from pay day).

Power Weenies... Watts per £
It's all a bit moot when you're looking at performance wheels. There is basically no area of bike racing, from a 4th Cat crashfest up to the TDF where parts offer benefit over which training can't provide. Train more than the other guy and you will be faster, regardless of bikes.
-
• #3694
Sure, gaps in ability diminish at higher levels. I'd take 5w for £20 though any day.
Train more than the other guy and you will be faster, regardless of bikes.
It doesn't work like that at all @Mechamorgan IME. Have you never ridden with anyone talented?
I know a cat 2 that trains for 5 hours a week, year round :-(
-
• #3695
Natural talent comes in to it, I can't deny that, but train 10 hours a week and you will be faster than them eventually.

• #3696
Simply not true dude.

Come off it, what do you think this talent offers that good training can't provide? I ride with a bunch of guys who can do a 21 minute 10 mile TT on their road bikes with no aero kit, for a bit of fun on a Tuesday night. It's because they ride every day, twice a day.
I'm aware my heart rate is fucking terrible - that's not a problem though, because via training, I can work it down... Some people might start with a leg up, but if you don't capitalise on it the people who train day-in day-out, will be faster than you.
I read that as '5 watts' – Bargain!
0.5 – not so much.
