We just ordered nearly 50 tubes of nuun from wiggle on the bogof.
That is a lot of hydration!! I spent 20 squid and thought it was excessive...

I am a sweaty bastard. Have also noticed that I am much better humoured when hydrated, whereas more prone to irritation when thirsty. Was chatting with a friend who also does the same the other day, and he also now constantly drinks nuun as it makes water more potable and we both find it helps.

My Wiggle shipment, along with 3 x mini bags of Haribo, has just arrived.
Have been eagerly anticipating trying the new cherry limeade since i ordered, which, I notice, has double the caffeine content of the Kona Kola and Lemon Tea.
It's a bit odd tasting, but I dig it. Cue exclusively drinking this flavour for a couple of months and then becoming sick to death of it and never being able to face it again, like i do with many bike-related food / drink (particularly so with PB Cliff bars)

Just done the same.
This is a positive thing as I tend to get racist when I am dehydrated.

^ You on the Cherry Limeade too?

Always used to use Nuun. Seems a bit pricey though. There must be a cheaper way to hydrate...

There is, you can buy the electrolyte ingredients for Nuun (it's just 3 or 4 types of salts) for about a hundredth of the cost. Probably £20 will provide you a lifetime's worth.
You've then got to sort out some flavourings, but I doubt that's too hard.
But at this point you've a bunch of whitish powder, either in a tub or in individual portions in baggies, which is a lot less simple to use than taking a tablet from a tube and dropping it into a bidon. I suppose you could get some food grade chalk powder and a pill press and try and make your own tablets and reuse old tablet tubes.
For me, the premium of paying for High-5 Zero or Nuun is worth it for my convenience.
There's a fair amount of money you're paying for branding (and the initial R&D and testing/certification/etc). Much like paying £2.10 for 16 x 200mg tablets of Nurofen (just Ibuprofen, not the express version that contains caffeine) or the supermarket basics version for 30p. It's the same stuff at the end of the day.

You can just put some fruit juice and sea salt in your bottle.

That's the point. For the first bottle yes, it's a piece of piss, for subsequent bottles on a ride it means carrying around salts and fruit juice.
And just using sea salt isn't going to get you a good mixture of electrolytes. You may, of course, not think this is necessary.

I ride with two bottles, but sure. I don't really believe you need the recommended concentration if you're also digesting food.

Sea salt has;
Sodium
Potassium
Magnesium
Calcium
ChlorideThat's exactly the same as nuun and my £20/kg Torq powder. The measurements (and therefore ratios) will differ but are in the same quantity order.
It's not a bad start!

Citrus fruit flavour is an absolute revelation. SO much better than High5 pink grapefruit.
-
• #491
Agree on the citrus, tis great. Think that and lemon and lime are the best flavours of the many I've had.
Had another go on the caffeine Cherry Limeade this morning, not good. Only flavour of theirs I disagree with.

I've got some old Nuun that was something and Ginger (not the Tangerine and Ginger).
'kin awful.

Has anyone tried GU Brew Electrolyte Tablets?
-
• #494
No and doubt i ever will at £9 a tube
-
• #495
More expensive than Nuun whilst being less beneficial for hydration:

http://www.nuun.com/products?ck=XOpdRGTgAW0v1UjE&vid=XOpdRGTgAXMv1eLV&cktime=122980Unless Nuun change the flavour to trigger revulsion I'll keep using the cheaper and more loaded choice.

There must be a million things to do with the empty tubes.
I keep my torch in one, and by wrapping a bit of inner tube round the torch to make it a snug fit in the tube I can use it as a diffuser. By sliding the torch in or out of the tube makes a great difference in the amount of light it casts.
Just remove the labels first! Easily good enough to read by with a reasonably powerful torch.
I use one of these:-

Don't think my petzl tikka 2 xp would fit, good topic though, how many AAA batteries can fit in a tube?
-
• #498
Who pays full price for anything? ;)
I've seen them cheaper on quite a few sites, including Chain Reaction
Still, I guess if they were tastier/more effective than Nuun, we'd all know about it by now.

• #499
TBH I find nuun a luxury as I don't hate the High 5 pink grapefruit ones, nuun lemon and lime are better but for the amount I drink them, if they weren't on offer I would consider them overpriced
-
• #500
Ha! I commend your honesty, Mule.
Speaking of Nuun offers, does anyone know of any current ones?
We did that too last time wiggle ran the BOGOF. The only way to buy them!
