  • Ha! I'm currently proof-reading an academic paper for a friend and having to stop myself from splitting every 'into', 'sometime', 'something' and the like. Fortunately there are far worse grammatical crimes for me to focus on...

I also hate that I can't say 'no' to checking other people's assignments as it ALWAYS takes longer than I predict. :/

  • Am I missing some context here?
What is wrong with something, into or onto?
Next you'll be moaning about whereof, whereby, hereby, thereof, therein, and hitherto.

They are sometimes used inappropriately (I hope miss mouse isn't actually wanting to split every one of them). "One thing leads on to the next.", not "One thing leads onto the next." (unless the one thing is a stairway to the top of the next thing). "Give in to" and "Give into" would mean quite different things. Not forgetting the old joke "Did you hear about the driver who picked up a hitchhiking witch? She touched his knee and he turned into a layby".
