  • I'd ride a TCR no probs*. That Giant store is insane, too. Can't imagine they make any money out of it.

*If they did one in colour I like with a better / smaller logo

  • Caad10 framesets aren't that cheap, compared to something like a Kinesis Racelight Aithein, which gets well reviewed. Disclaimer: I haven't ridden either.

  • Would

Beat the shit out of you though apparently. I READ IT ONLINE IT MUST BE TRU

  • Its a first but I agree with @miro_o .. No BikeForLife™; Purpose > Brand/trend and if purpose is not clear then a stop gap bike.

    I've seen the light now.

  • whats the end aim of the bike? is it everyday trainer/racer, weekend warrior? enjoyment of riding? get into racing then eventually winter hack?

  • Did he ask for raceblade compatible 1800£ bike?

  • Blockquote

    Fuck this quote system bollocks

Yeah, I just like Cannondales really

  • Criteria is something that'll be ridden all seasons, really don't care about mudguard compatibility. Plan is to get into racing. But it will be ridden daily

  • It doesn't matter what you buy. It'll do what you want. All modern bikes are good enough.

So get something that fits. That you like the look of.

You've got plenty of money to spend, so go to a decent place that'll throw a few bikes at you to try and will get you one thats the right frame size.

  • ^this. Keep a bit of money back too- you're better off buying something a little below your budget and having some money for decent contact points/tyres.

  • Yeah good thought. Overlooked that.

    Saddle
    Shoes
    Cleats

    So ~£300

  • And what ever you buy you'll want something else in a year once you learn what you like/don't.

  • I really hope you are a 53.

  • ^^ so much that!

  • Sometimes tyres too.

The nice thing about Rose is you can spec all these (within reason).

  • You can do that with Ribble too.. but you can't test ride either.

  • Cervelo are selling the R3 with the increased clearance fork (Paris - Richmond Approved) with 5800 105 for 2k, so probably within the miloas budget soon.

That would make a lovely year round bike. 105 Consumables are cheap and larger tyres fit. The wheels will be basic (fine for training on). But still nice after a spit and polish.

  • Was ideally hoping to keep it below 1800, but that does sound tempting. Might try going into Sigma tomorrow if possible. Already got saddle and shoes/pedals sorted so that should be fine. The realisation that going into a bike shop and trying rather than hunting for bargains online is the better idea, especially for a first proper road bike

  • Is the Giant Propel SL availible as a frameset?

I have a short list of horribly uncomfortable, and inappropriate, bikes I'd like to add it too.

  • Canyon do that too. Why Germans? Why?

    Enigma.

  • Just took a trip to my LBS and found a 2014 Genesis Volare 10 in my size (60) for €1,100.

The colour scheme turns my stomach a little but I think I might be able to get over it for that price.

I was originally thinking of a Caad10 or a Canyon Ultimate Al, but steel is looking more and more tempting.

  • No.

The second criteria over fit is look good, in a colour you LIKE!

  • Seeing as a lot of CAAD10 post here:

Will mine work with 28c tyres (gatorskins)on shock non-wide wims? My 23c's are nearly gone and can't be bothered to waste time later finding out the hard way.

  • I could squeeze a 28mm marathon supreme in my CAAD7. There's tonnes of room on my CAAD9 with a 24mm GP4000.

@edscoble knows the answer for defs I think.

But gatorskins*? REALLY? Do you hate yourself that much?

*unless you mean the tubular version, in which case rock-on.
