  • Anyone know if there's any geo differences between the CAAD10 track and CAAD10? I'm too lazy to check the charts / cats and I'm not sure they are even out yet...

I have serious CAAD10 lust but would find it hard to pull the trigger if there's no track optimisations other than a tighter OLN.

  • Will be building my Caad 9 up in the next week or so. Can't wait to get it out on the road, will post pic when done.

  • I know the fork has a 45degree rake.

I think its more a overpriced fixie skidder than a true track bike

  • Which makes it a hard sell to me when the same effect could be achieved with a regular CAAD10 frame and some kind of eccentric bb30 doobry

  • Track looks to slope down a little on the tt so geo must be a bit different?

  • has to be if it's going to be ridden on the road, having a bb as low as on the road version would lead to pedal strike all the time, and that^

  • I've been thinking about that. This is the lean angle required to engender pedal strike on the Path Racer:

I don't think I'll ever get close to that - anyone else think that they routinely get the bike that far over?

  • Maybe not routinely but on occasion, plus if they're designing an aluminium track bike, not a fixed gear road bike, surely they'd give it track geometry

  • Normally no but since riding a geared bike the last couple of weeks, I've been enjoying nearly getting my knee on the ground round some fast corners without worrying about pedal strike.

  • Be a lot easier to tack a new rear triangle onto the existing CAAD10 frame, especially if it's going to be low volume - that's what they did for the CAAD7 version.

Which, incidentally, made it a great fixed-road bike.

  • Hi all - working on a Caad10 project at the moment but overlooked the whole BB30 issue as I'm gonna be using 6870. Will I need one of these?

  • Those are the best of that sort, as in the ones made my wheels manufacturing, but the best solution seems to be these:

the top one on the drop down list is the right one for you, they put the bearings in the right place etc. and bb30 bikes that come with shimano are starting to come as standard with them, that speaks volumes imo

  • Awesome, thanks - is that the same as the one below out in the US?

Says: For Praxis M30 Spindle based cranks only. Not for other 30mm cranks.

  • I'd consider a lightweight FSA BB30 chainset over 6870, or stretch the budget and get a Hollowgram SISL2

  • I've got both a 6800 (53/59) and an SiSl (52/36) and they're both very good chainsets.

I have a Power2Max power meter on the SiSl's, before that I had an SRM - I've also got some normal spiders which allow me to swap between 110bcd and 130bcd.

If you don't need the flexibility I'd stick to the 6800 though- it's a great crankset.

Personally I would not put an FSA crankset on my bike.

  • I can do without the flexibility - for now I just need to know that the praxis converter will actually allow me to use my 6800's!

  • Sensom I'm on my phone but just look at the praxis website, it's 100% designed for shimano cranks, I've seen videos of reps talking about them being designed for shimano cranks

No - that's for some weird GPX like 30/28mm cranksets.

You could try a step down converter before splashing out on the Praxis doobry - at least in that way you get the benefit of the larger BB30 bearings.

Also worth considering Rotor 3D+ and Specialized OS cranks - both are technically excellent if visually a bit marmite.

  • Or just visually a bit gash, in the case of the Speci cranks. But they can be had dirt cheap used and weigh approximately nothing

  • I've got the 3D+, nice thing about them is that they can be used in a BB30 frame or BSA.

You get used to the looks.

  • I like them and they seem to keep their value - probably because they are compatible with just about every frame on the market and are groupset agnostic

  • It's going to be more expensive for me to invest in new cranks rather than getting a Praxis converter though, surely?

  • Oh, yeah, definitely. 6800 will probably shift the best, too. Seeing converters makes me sad though.

  • I'd keep the BB30 bearings in the frame and use the converter things that step the size down (and increase the width), seems easiest:
