Mine did that, drove me nuts - I eventually worked out that there was a tiny amount of water in the socket that was shorting two pins out when I plugged the cable in.
I sat the Garmin on top of the dehumidifier whilst I hung my laundry out, by the time I'd finished the Garmin had dried out and I could plug it in as normal.
