Yep, I have.

I like the look, how are they in use Adroit?

I have a pair.
Stiffer than a sidi dominator but not as stiff as the Dragon2.
They clean up really well. Only problem is that the replacement sole parts are not yet available, and mine need replacing.

Christ on Marmite!!!
They remind me of something I had to wear when I broke my leg when I was a sprog.

I like them, very stiff, as stiff in my opinion as my Dragons, and the lacing makes the fit easy to refine.
When I bought them I had to pretend I didn't have new shoes to Mrs Adroit, and I tried all sorts of things to get them a bit grubby, and they still looked pristine by the time I got home.
They are also pretty good for walking in, but the soles are wearing quite quickly so I have gone back to my spd cleat covers for the moment.
I'd give them 8/10 -

I like them, they're a bit different (in a good way) & perhaps the only spd type shoe that suites a road bike. Cheaper than the Empire too.

look alright but also like youd get through that sole in weeks on daily work use
ill stick with Northwave -

The appeal is that I might be able to wear these whilst at work, so the sole wear is a concern.
When are the replacement lugs meant to be available?

"Soon" was the most accurate description after 4 months of contacting Giro's distributor in the UK, Europe and head office in the USA.
More people need to hassle them via twitter.

I brought these shoes. I like them. Plenty good enough to use as dedicated road shoes, but very easy to walk in. They're comfortable, but you need to take time with the laces if you want a firm hold around your foot. One thing worth noting is the sticky walking pads sit very firmly against the pedal platform when locked in. Float is all but eliminated, but I'm sure they'll slacken off very soon. Otherwise totally recommended. On sale now at Always Riding too.

P'raps this could be renamed The Giro Shoes Thread (like the Sidi one)?
I bought the Privateers a few weeks back, and am happy to share info on 'em.- The shoes generally feel really well made. The soles are ace, and a lot more grippy than my old Dominators walking down stone/metal stairs.
- The buckle is a little more fiddly than the Sidi buckle to engage, and the strap itself isn't as burly, so each buckle is more of a two-hand job (fnarr) than my old shoes.
- The mesh area on the toe box does leak quite a lot of cool air in when cycling in cold windy weather. I'm guessing they put the mesh there to let heat out, primarily.
- The shoe is generally bulkier through the middle and around the heel cup compared to Dominators - I never used to get any heel rub on my cranks, but I'm starting to get it occasionally with these.
Still, they're so damn comfy that I'm forgiving them that at present.

Does anyone use the Giro Republics with clips and straps and not SPD's?
Are they any good for this? I'm not concerned with wearing them out walking as I'll mostly be standing in pubs.
Thanks!

Anyone got the all white ones? any ideas how grubby they get?
-
• #17
infact, does anywhere other than alwaysriding actually have the all black or all white ones?? all the big stores have the grey ones by the look of it

I bought a pair of Republics in black from Evans of all places about 3 weeks ago.
I've just looked and they are showing stock in black in all sizes from EU40 to 48

Thinking of getting the privateers in red/orange. How's the sizing on giro shoes? And anyone know if any shops that stock giro shoes?

I've found my Giro shoes run pretty much to size (I wear 46) I love my Gauges. My last pair lasted for just over a year and that was wearing them everyday for 10 hours.

This thread showed up in my search for replacement screw on foot pads for the Giro Republic, to bring it up to date - pads are showing as available at Sigma sports (black/black and blue/white £16.99) and Always riding (all colours £22.99) at the moment.

anyone used both republic and privateer?
is the republic noticeably stiffer? I'm after a SPD commuting shoe, so walkability isn't important, just after a snug fit and stiffest possible sole for close to £100,
-

Sorry for the thread dreg, but has anyone used these long term?
I'm looking for a pair of shoes to replace my cheap and cheerful DHB's which lasted 4 years. Looking at either a pair of Giro republics or Sidis
-

Ive had republics for a well over a year and really rate them, great on the bike. great off the bike in most bikeish settings, you certainly couldnt walk all day in them but theyre fine wandering round a shop, evening in the pub..

you havent worn out the walking pads yet? some people seem to wear them out in just a couple of months but some say they havent heard clacking on pavement for over a year
Anyone bought the Giro Republic (spd) shoes for use on their road or other bike?
