ERD spoke length question.

I want to re-lace some 570o hubs from open pro (hardly used) to tb-14.

Open pro ERD is 605
1b-14 is 610

I looked on ed wheelbuilder but don't know what the tolerances would be.

Has anyone ever re-laced a crossride/cosmos rear hub, i have a NOS cxp30 rim in 28h..well two of them actually(yes i have 62 of the special nipple washers that they need. ) Just wondered if anyone knew the measurements of the rear hubs as i cant find any and it hasnt arrived yet to measure it myself.

Any recommendations for a 20h front hub for a time trial bike? Featherweight rider (not me) in case that's relevant. At the moment I can't see any reason not to use a tried and trusted Novatec A291SB.

Thought about the English hub, but I can't bring myself to spend more on the front hub than the carbon disc rear wheel cost...

I am after a Novatec D541SB (9mm thru). Can anyone recommend any dealers/shops that could supply one? Preferably in London.

Not available in the UK. I've got one built on my CX bike, that I sourced from Novatec EU in Slovakia. These days you can get them from BDOP cycling in Taiwan. 5-7 days delivery and no tax in most cases

My front wheel is making a tinkling sound when I'm out of the saddle. Does this mean my spokes are loosing tension? The wheels itself is still true.

Would a few half turns to all the spokes sort this out or is it going to be more effort than that?

Well they should go "ping" rather than "thunk" when plucked so either compare notes with a similar but well-tensioned wheel or find someone with a spoke tension gauge.

I've been trawling this and other threads on what would be the most suitable wheelset to have built up. I'm trying to keep costs reasonably low, within 300 quid if possible.

I generally weigh around 68kg and want a reasonably light set as I do a lot of riding in the mountains of Japan. My current wheels are some old Mavic GL330s laced 32 front and rear to Dura ace 7400 hubs running 8 speed. They're not exactly rigid, and while Japanese roads are generally okay, there are plenty of nasty grates, bridge joins and potholes which love to eat lesser rims.

I'm basically looking for something light, stiff and as robust as possible - I want them to be less of a race-day wheel and more of a trainer with some decent longevity. I'm also jumping a few generations and going from 8 to 11 speed with these.

Not sure if this is a great deal or not, but I've heard that the rims are pretty decent and the hubs are nice and lightweight.

If the wheel is new it's quite normal to get some pinging from the spokes.
During the final stages of the truing and tensioning some of the spokes may have twisted around a bit when the nipple was turned. The ping comes when the spoke twist back in a stres-release cycle.
Don't tension everything, just check trueness when pinging is about stopped.

That's the kind of noise it sounds like but these wheels have probably 1000 miles on them. I'll keep an eye (and ear) on them to see if it gets worse.

I built some wheels for Cycliste using the XR200 and the BHS Ultralite hubs, although I went up to 24/28 for the spokes (CX-Rays). They were about 1340g for the pair, IIRC, and so far they've been very good, and the roads round here are pretty poor in places. But XR200 definitely aren't 'robust as possible'. What about the BHS C472w rims instead?

skinny erics cycleworks currently have a bulk load of sjs alike hubs / rigida rims, 36H fixed / free 100mm/120mm come in both black and silver with sealed bearings

looks like a decent beater / winter wheelset for a decent price
