  • ...unless you have a bulging disc :')

  • Which I do, strangely enough!

  • A tyre budget or bulging disc?

  • everyone knows that skids are cool, thats why I ride fixed in the hills! Its fun riding an impractical bike

  • @Tomo187 I ride fixed but with a front brake. No skids for me and it seems to work fine :-/ Can do Dyke and Ditchling road and have gotten out to Ginger Fox so not too much trouble

  • Riding fixed makes loadsa sense in Brighton! It's friggin' great fun around here! Trust /fixie4lyfe

  • Speaking of which, yesterday I saw someone on a blue number with a black spok on the front, heading down the Steine about 2pm. I didn't get a good look at it, but it had skinny risers so was obviously for whipskiddz

  • Nice geared numbers outside Hare and Hounds after work yesterday...

  • .

  • Chrome banchi pista goring sea front heading up thro Ferring this morning

  • Most likely the Angering dude, can't remember his name. He heads out a couple of times a week to do some mega millage, did he have tats and a beard?

edit - just seem how old this is, my bad!

Brighton scene seems so quiet these days

  • That's prob him
    legs inked up / beard

    • very quite
  • Inked up dude on the chrome bianchi Angmering village

  • Very quite scene now. Shame really but hey ho!

  • Seems more action in Portsmouth

  • There are a few single speed and fixed bikes around here but not many. The general consensus seems to be that it's impossible to ride fixed or single speed because of "all the hills".

I 1000% disagree but it seems to be the general feeling. Suggest it to people all the time but it's always met with whinging and whining

  • Probably right I generally use my 29er mtb when in Brighton the hills either fuck me or scare the shit out of me
had a job in peacehaven last year used train it to Hove then follow the sea run with my fixie then as pretty flat
I'm generally a loner when it comes to riding own pace etc go where I want but when out riding generally at weekends i hardly see any fixies around this area ( Littlehampton ) with the exception of bianchi boy
rode from pompey to chi last week and see a few about around but nothing like the amount as i when i lived in London seems to be road or mtb fixie I don't think it has ever caught on down these parts

  • Road around Poynings and Fulking last weekend but it was a bit of a slog to be sure. There are people around, they just seem to be here or there and disappear again. Saw a few on Saturday passing by the Level but looked like they were a group of friends riding somewhere...

  • Well, there was a time a few years back when we had pretty regular meetups and casual alley cats. I joined that late on and it led into a load of us playing polo on the regular, fixed gear being put aside as we built polo bikes and went to tourneys etc in London. We struggled for players at times and eventually it looks to have died off.

I think a lot of the longer term Brighton forumers have moved on to road bikes or more off-road focused bikes. I do know a good number of people who still ride fixed and there have been various alley-cats of note recently thanks to @africanherbsman and a few others' efforts.

The key here is to organise things and attend when other people organise...otherwise you'll be right, and there's no scene to speak of. The main problems you'll encounter are apathy and divided attention, there's a lot to do and see in Brighton.

  • Recently we had the Bike Film Festival, I gave a shout at pre-party about alleycat, then there was an announcement after the last movie but the only people who showed up were my friends. Most of the people, even those riding fixies were like "nah, can't be bothered" "already had a ride today".

  • Ah that's a shame @WroSS - It's really hit and miss. Brighton is full of flakes (I am one) :D

  • Hay Brighton folk, sorry new to the forum, been living down south a bunch of years but only recently got back on trusty steed. Doing the Worthing to Brighton commute which aint amazing on my fixie but Ill never ride anything else (I say that now anyway, and that excludes BMX of course) and I love it all the same. Anyway Brighton/Worthing fixed scene seems non-exsistent, which sucks but in fairness life is busy so I couldn't be that active anyhow, but if anyone sees me riding about stop and say hello!

  • Yay, i love the road Brighton - Worthing. Always going there when there is no idea for another ride. With friends, we got even challenge, whoever beats time of 38 min, from Brighton to Worthing on a fixed bike get's 15quid. Just prove it with strava. Time was done on a proper windy day so it's easy to beat. Come and join us, my straca profile https://www.strava.com/athletes/8442782

  • I think I saw you about 6pm today on church road, only just realised! It's those forks!

Would have said hello but I was driving, and like I say only just worked it all out

  • Hello folks

I have recently moved down to Brighton, and have my Cinelli with me.

I have met a few of you at things before, it's Lawrence if we have met!

Feel free to shout/wave/DAS me if you see me about. Normally on a Mash Histogram [Black, silver logo, boring wheels, Wide risers and a brake], or more recently a dark blue/cream brompton. Almost always repping bright orange shoes.

I am away over the next couple of weeks but when I am back I will try an organize a wee ride-out and some drinks? Would be good to have some different people to go riding with!
