I used to use the free OSM ones on my 705 it used to struggle with them
-
• #1328
^ The 800 is not the 705. OSM ones are really good.

piratebay garmin city navigator + OSM area specific as backup on a micro SD

My Garmin behaves more predictably when I've mapped using the OSM view in ridewithgps.com with OSM maps on my Garmin. Forget the Garmin City Navigator. I found it a bit shit in comparison.

They're great on the 800. Wools tells the truth.
-
• #1332
I used OSM in Majorca and they were great.
800 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 705

OSM it is then!

Average Speed rather than Moving Average Speed - is that possible on an 800?
-
• #1335
switch off auto-pause?
I don't think you can have both though...
-
• #1336
in connect it shows both, recorded with my 800. I have set it to display avg not mavg.

I have a garmin HRM, which has started telling me that I've died whenever I go for a run. How long are the batteries meant to last on these things?
If it's the soft strap version they are fecking crap and should be replaced with the Polar Wearlink Plus strap ASAP. The pod snaps straight in.

• #1338
I don't have Auto Pause enabled.
-
• #1339
Maybe I've just missed that option in the menu.

So the latest version of GarminExpress on Windows XP. Am I right in thinking it's not possible to install? Loads of threads on the web while trying to troubleshoot.

Has anyone ever bought a Garmin from the US? Are they cheaper out there than here? Any problems with using them in the UK? Some googling by me has proved inconclusive for the 810... Thanks
-
• #1342
I bought a 310xt through eBay from a seller shipped from US. Came with US and UK plugs and registered fine.
Are you referring more to maps, etc?
-
• #1343
Yeah - I guess it would come with the US base maps. Just trying to work out if it is worth it, assuming there is a saving, to probably not be able to do anything with warranty etc if it all goes wrong...
-
• #1344
Warranty is shit anyway. My 510 is dying and when I contacted garmin they said I had to post it back to them at my expense for repair, knowing how electronics repair is they will do a shit patch up job and I will be sending it off to them again at my expense in a few months. Going to opt to give probikekit(the retailer I got it from) a "garmin has said it's broke so refund/replace me and bill them" call to hopefully time the being without garmin to be during my holiday.

Garmin warranty has generally been good in my experience. They tend to just send you a refurbished unit rather than repair them.
I need to decide if I should upgrade to an 810 or 1000 and pass the 800 to my other half.
810 bundle is £283 on bikediscount.de or £415 for the 1000 bundle.
Is the 1000 worth an extra £130?

Question.
Can you upload from an 810 to garmin connect/strava without using a PC, just using an iphone?
EDIT: Simple via Garmin Connect app.

@dancing james. I've never used the 1000. But the 810 is a big step up from 800. A lot faster and more friendly to use.

quick question guys.
every morning i turn my 800 on whilst i'm getting my bike ready. it doesn't pick up a signal as i'm indoors so says 'cannot find satellite, continue searching?' or something like that.
then when i get outdoors it picks up signal and away i go.
this morning i went outside and it said 'continue searching' so i said yes, then just appeared to go to the garmin 'warm up screen'. after a while it came to life and started asking me what language settings i wanted, then my age, weight etc. i got to weight and turned the dam thing off as i don't know what i've done. have i managed to do some kind of hard reset? would i have lost my rides etc?
WHAT HAVE I DONE?! -
• #1349
Gamins do do crazy things sometimes. Don't worry about it.
Just see if your activities are still there. I tend to get it to save activities to external memory card. Keeps the OS memory lower and also means it won't wipe the activities if the garmin shits it's pants.

thanks skinny.
just turned it back on and went through the start up options.
yes it's fucked it.
i went into activities and the lastest activity is 25th Feb. great.
i wonder what will happen now when i plug the dam thing into my computer and garmin express (another thing that i can't stand) will try to sync it? any ideas what could happen then?!
fucks sake
Free OSM ones or City Navigator Europe.
