I use multiple mats.

An uglier alternative I used to use in Melbourne was that clear plastic walkway stuff that has carpet gripper nodules on the bottom and textured top. You can get it cut any length.

Yeah, I was thinking about that plastic walkway stuff recently, it used to be in another flat I lived in. Where do you get it? Carpet shops? DIY stores?
