Subtle changes, bugs and feedback

  • Pretty sure the kidz are already saying "convo".

  • Since I'm so full of hate and bile toast and marmalade this morning, one more thing:

In the glorious olden days of a week ago, usercp would be refreshed every time I clicked on the relevant navigation button. Now "updates" just reloads from cache when I hit the "following" button, so I have to F5 every time to see what is actually new. Same with threads, so when I just F5ed the "updates" and saw that there was a new post in the helmets thread, clicking on the thread title reloaded the page from the cache so I had to F5 that too in order to see the new post.

  • at least you can still use 'strike through' and even do this:
ʇsǝq ǝɥʇ ǝɹɐ ʎǝɥʇ ǝsnɐɔǝq sʇǝɹɔǝs ǝɹɐ ʎǝɥʇ puɐ 'sʇǝɹɔǝs ǝɹɐ sbuıɥʇ ʇsǝq ǝɥ

  • The bold and italic are pretty nasty in this new font too :-)

  • Following from the nav menu refreshes fine for me, the link near the top of the page that is a hyperlink just above the thread titles just goes back to whatever page of following you are on, I'd have thought it would be a quick link to a refreshed first page of following, probably makes less sense on desktop when that bottom is already there but on mobile it would save a click.

  • Although even that button does a refreshed version of the page you are on.

  • I return this morning with a bug report, and also thanks.

First, the bug. I clicked on a link in one of chainbreaker's posts in a certain forum and it returned a 404 which logged me out.

Now the thanks: The smaller font size is a noticeable improvement. It even hints better than the old one on a non retina ipad so the letters are actually clearer. Posts can now be scan-read, and it's much better. Font vendors do pay more attention to hinting at the more popular smaller sizes, which might explain it.
But I would still prefer something designed for the screen, not print. Nice open letterforms, large x-height and slightly bigger letter spacing, and no serifs.

  • The forum looks great now, excellent job!

  • After reading up.. I now see a todays posts function is cumming.
    http://www.lfgss.com/comments/11752451/

    Raised another question tho..
Why no quote or multiquote functionality?

  • @velocio Why not put the 'conversations' button in the bar at the top with:
    Forums [Conversations] Trending Following People?

  • Agreed with BlueQuinn on a bigger letter spacing, and I insist on a wider width of the content container for who has a big screen, but not much. And not rush.

  • Also, I've noticed on an iPad the page nav at the bottom is different to that at the top. It splits over two lines.
And on the button in the right column, longer text such as "Change your notification settings" flows over the edge of the button. There's enough room there to make them fluid height and have the text wrap.

  • And, if possible, would be great a today post link customisable, I personally don't care much about the classifieds, unless I'm searching for something to buy, and excluding that from my every day surfing would be a good saving. But probably this just complicate the things when it's not really necessary.

  • Several times today different thread links, including this one, logged me out. Old iphone with safari on some old ios.
It was also impossible for me to find a specific cp thread with the search function. Why can't I sort the search results or search in specific forums?

  • Mobile version of the site.. seems to have very limited functionality.
Can we have 'treading' at least?

  • Thanks for fixing the small current page number box. FYI this is what it looks like for me on Firefox 31. I imagine it's only a temporary fix.

  • And it's quite entertaining what happens when you drag and drop an image attached to a post while you're still editing the post--it drops the raw data into the post. If I drag and drop it into a different post, it gives me the link as it should:

    https://lfgss.microcosm.app/api/v1/files/85c41b5d59eafa81f1ba2d4725e065d9f3896643

I'll upload the image again in a moment to put the raw data into a post. It's only a small image, but I'll delete most of it if it ends up being too much.

  • Raw data:

Is this intentional? I like it somehow, but I assume it should be possible to drag the image URL into the post while you're editing it and not end up with raw data?

  • Another thing is that you currently can't reply to your own posts, but shouldn't it be possible to do that to link a follow-up, e.g. 'I said this above, but now I think that it's not true'?

  • Back down? Volte face?

    Not on lfgss

  • The Persona issue that I have is that I always have to log in twice. When I log in the first time, it doesn't give me the 'one month/this session only' question. It then logs me out, probably after the same time every time, but I haven't measured it. When I log in again, it then asks me about 'one month/this session only' and it then stays stable and I don't have to log in again. FF31 and Windows XP.

  • Who are you?

  • I think he's alasdairw.

  • Its likely a concern of mine rather than a general feeling but the rider down subforum is now less visible than it used to be. Would you be willing to move it up the highrachy?
