... When I plug it in it asks if I want to import using google+ or gallery.
- Does selecting google+ put it on a cloud somewhere? Does choosing gallery store it remotely?
google+ is like facebook so it is uploading to the cloud however you can't do much with the photos once they are in g+. 'Gallery' is just the local storage. This is the option I think you want to use. This gives you the ability to upload them to another photo storage service later.
- Does anyone have any good ideas for online cloud storage for my photos? I've got drive, Dropbox and copy. Is anyone of these easier than the other?
Thanks.
The choices for free image storage are really flickr or picassa. flickr is from yahoo, and picassa is google's equivalent. I use flickr personally since I was using it from when it launched.
To upload to flickr from your camera, just import your pictures into the 'Gallery' when asked. Once completed launch the flickr app, choose the upload option, select the pictures you want to upload from the gallery, and leave it uploading.
You could just use 'Drive' or 'Dropbox' but these are more generic storage options. The images sharing/editiing/viewing options are not as good as flickr or picassa. Dropbox will start costing you money once you have uploaded a few gigs worth of photos!

Permissions Denied or is there a better permission restrictor out there for rooted phones?

Privacy guard built into cyanogenmod works well, I don't know if it's available as an app or not.

Any tips on boosting wifi reception on a phone? Flat we're staying in is just outside of a network we have access to. Can see it with one bar sometimes. Once I got an IP from it. So close! Have to stand in the hallway now to get online.

Don't bother. Weak WiFi connections drain batteries like no-one's business as the phone will compensate by boosting signal strength as much as it can.
If you have 3g/4g that works... stick with that.

Cheers for the dicky response.

Unfortunately no mobile internets. In Toronto at my partner's brother's flat. The router is just beyond reach for a connection. Argh!
-
• #15015
If you have the admin password to the router you could reduce the speed of connection for wider coverage.

Interesting. Probably don't want to fuck with their wifi but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

Could you pick up some kind of repeater to pump the signal round your place?
-
• #15018
They don't really work. But I do have one for sale...
Best way is to get a pair of power line Ethernet adapters and an old router or access point. Use the power line to shift the connection to another more convenient room, over the mains cabling, then put the router or AP in that room.
Or run cat5 through the house.

Sounds like it's a different flat though, so probably different wiring loops and running cat5 not being an option.

Actually wiring loops work quite well across property boundaries.
I live in a house (oooh get me) and when I plugged in a powerline with a default encryption key I was suddenly on someone else's network with a BT router. I am not a BT customer.

Ah. That's worth a shot. I have a bunch at home but I'll see if I can pick up a couple cheap ones here somewhere to try.

The SD card in my Derise HD has stopped working. I get a message of "Preparing SD Card" and the "Removed SD Card" straight after. I've taken it out and hooked it to a PC and it all looks fine and there is space on it but I can't get the phone to recognise it for long enough to mount/unmount it or do anyhting useful with it. Any ideas?

I have a busted up Galaxy S3 Mini that I'm about to bin. If anyone needs the back cover or a possibly working battery from a Samsung S3 Mini then let me know.

Google finally killed the Outlook Sync app that allowed me to sync my work calendar to GCal.
Any options?
I feel like such and old man asking the following, but I could do with some help.
I have a nexus 7 and a digital camera. I want to import all my photos from my camera onto my tablet. I can do this by plugging it in. When I plug it in it asks if I want to import using google+ or gallery.
Does selecting google+ put it on a cloud somewhere? Does choosing gallery store it remotely?
