  • I'm pretty much waiting until there's a decent mechanical hydraulic groupset that exist, or simply get the SRAM Rival hydraulic and removed the shift body to set it up as a SS levers instead of getting the TRP Hylex.

Only disadvantage is that SRAM isn't gonna be cheap.

  • I am not impressed by mechanical disc brakes so far. But I thought the hylex was good no?

  • Have you tried the compressionless housing?

Hylex is reputable to be good, I've tried it and felt just as good as MTB brakes, but I end up buying new pads and rotor as they're not exactly great straight from the package.

I just like the SRAM lever shape as it pleased me.

  • No it probably wasn't. Anyway the rear caliper broke so I either have to fix it or see if TRP will refund them.

  • Compressionless make it felt like hydraulic, least that what mine feel like.

Still want the self-aligning pads of the hydraulic though.

  • Perhaps he got the old Spyres and yet to change it?

  • Just read that. Silly me.
Also my "How?" was in response to a post on the last page. New layout needs some getting used to.

  • Yes it is the ones on the left I have

I dont have a receipt though as I got them from a friend who used to be sponsored by TRP

  • How what then?

  • How did you destroy them ;)

  • Down hilling fully packed ;-)

  • lol

  • Offroad edition

  • Look like a lots of fun.

I've played around with the TRP HY/RD recently, it's surprisingly easy and straightforward to fit, cable mount is locked in place so you can tighten it as much as possible to reduced slack, if there's still a tiny bit, use barrier adjuster until the levers cannot be operated, then removed the lock to enable movement.

The best part is bleeding, which is a piece of piss, no need to mess about with a bleed kit, take probably just five minutes to replace/fill the oil.

  • Good reading ed

  • Thanks Ed. I have to reconsider my current build project then. Just got tubing etc for a sscx canti build, but I am really hooked on going for discs now. Much better control in the forest.. At cross races I don't need it, but I feel like I will end up getting more for my money if the sscx will be usable for touring, gears, and mocking about in the forest as well.

Just have to sell the canti carbon bits and get some disc stuff instead... Depending on what TRP says about the brakes...

  • @edscoble is it the HY/RD I want or the Hylex?

  • looks so sick mate

  • I honestly feel HY/RD with compressionless felt great, with the additional bonus of not being stuck with one system.

You tinker with your bikes a lots, having the ability to use the HY/RD on a flat bar, drop bar or even TT provide flexibility in levers choices and set up.

  • True..

    @Dakin thank you

  • i wasn't that happy with my hy/rd in combination with sram rival levers, will try other brake pads first or switch to trp spyre
