• I understand that the old name is up for grab the moment you changed it?

I want to change mine, but worried someone else will take the old name after I change it.

  • no

  • Cool, thanks.

I generally search by title unless I'm looking for a specific post. I like my search to be fast and powerful. Ooh err..

  • @Velocio - been selecting 'Follow' in lots of threads but they aren't appearing in my 'Following' section. Is there something I'm not doing right? Apologies if this has already been asked and I missed it - did have a search!

  • ^ I take it all back - they have slowly started appearing! Patience is a virtue young Ratty.

  • @edscoble The only names that are safe are those belonging to investors and those who donated during the initial run.

We have discussed creating a "verified" account that would increase trust with classifieds. In effect, make a payment and we use the identity of the payment (PayPal, your debit card, whatever) as a basis of us saying "This person is known to us".

We could then allow verified accounts to have the same perks as investors, but on a site level. i.e. if you had a verified account you could assert that "edscoble" was you... and it would protect your name from being used by anyone else.

Verification would expire... details don't remain valid, what if someone took over your account, etc. But in effect it would be a set of perks that could be purchased so that those trading or talking to you knew that it was definitely you they were dealing with.

  • How can I go to see unread posts in a conversation, either from the forums page or the following page I am sometimes taken a page or two back from where I last left the conversation.

  • Is there a way to change the theme? I don't see any options menu.

  • @Velocio, I would like to change my avatar, but dragging an image over the box as instructed doesn't seem to work. Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. Thanks

  • Try click+choose rather than drag and drop. What works depends in part on your browser and other things that might interfere (scripts, extensions, etc).

    What browser are you using?

  • Safari...

  • SSL now works

  • Page not refreshing/adding new posts.

Anyone else having this? Mac OSX 10.7.5/Chrome.

Page not refreshing? You should count yourself lucky.

And the auto-addition of new comments to the bottom of a page of comments hasn't been built yet.

  • Did the forum just go down?

  • How do I quickly quote someone's post for a reply?

Highlight their text then click Reply

  • actually. this also did work for me like this after moaning about it a couple of pages back. so, do it like that and works

    Test.

  • There are a couple of threads for testing. Bit of a waste of space here. Which is actually relevant to my question, though.

How do we delete posts, now? On vBulletin, that was an option when editing a post. This is not the case here.

  • Is there a way to re-order the forums or does it happen automatically with traffic/other?

  • Is there a way to re-order the forums or does it happen automatically with traffic/other?

    Forums are order by criteria:

    1. Is it sticky?
    2. How many comments/items does it have?

The first 10 or so forums on the front page are stickied so that new visitors get a really good idea of what "on-topic" looks like.

    Everything after that isn't sticky.

Within the first 10 (or so), and the rest... it's all sorted by popularity (comment count and item count).

We have a feature fully ready, to allow people to create their own forums. When we open this up the number of forums will grow rapidly.

Examples of things I imagine will become forums:

    1. Coffee Appreciation (all coffee threads moved into there)
    2. Tuesday Night Ride Club (would allow events to be created within there)
    3. Some of the Compass Beers (would allow social groups to exist around the pubs and easier tracking of events relating to the beers).
    4. Polo teams (would allow small private forums for a polo team to discuss tactics and talk rubbish)
    5. Football (it's inevitable).

Given that a lot of forums will be created, they will be auto-sorted by popularity.

  • Tuesday Night Ride Club (would allow events to be created within there)
