Fucking gold.
No quote, no insult.

I'm just going to post everything and leave it lie completely without context. Fuck it, it's too much effort anyway.

I have two browsers with the forum on it each with two shortcuts to get to posts/subscribed.

Don't worry, hippy. When you will must to explain it to every new member is when you will start to get best of it.

Find the 25 posts per page thing a bit annoying, more pages, more clicking, is there a way I can change how many posts per page or is it a pre set thing???

how did you do it wrong?
I'm not doing anything wrong. It doesn't work in FF apparently.

Gmail works like that and I don't see why we shouldn't be replying?
Gmail works how? It quotes the whole message.
This doesn't quote anything in FF. -

Why is lfgss.com on my mobile going to microcosm.app?

Firefox should be supported before Chrome. Bloody mcrcsm developers have it arse about.

How do you copy a list?
When I copied the list in the Bodeans thread it lost all the numbers. I put Dr Cake's name next to no 8 and it renumbered 1. Have left with wrong formatting for example. http://www.lfgss.com/comments/11746521/ -

apparently you have to copy all the names then add each name to a list one at a time double click the name then press list button, I highlighted them all and it just placed them all in entry 1

FWIW, I preferred the old style of quoting, too. What I liked particularly was the automatic addition of 'originally posted by ...' and links within the post, as well as the way in which space was automatically created around the quote. I always thought it looked neat and tidy, plus I prefer having a quote inside a box. I'm familiar with the appearance of the Markdown quotes (i.e., a line next to it) from e-mail and I've always disliked that style.
Microcosm uses the reply function to supply an 'external' parameter to each post that's in reply to another in order to create concatenations of replied-to posts as 'conversations', i.e. that parameter is part of the post's 'frame'.
I wonder if the following might work. Theoretically, it is possible to conceive of quote headings (as, for instance, in the old quoting syntax, which included the username and the post number, or perhaps in a new kind of quote syntax) as mentions, e.g. like the @username mentions that Microcosm already allows. This would make it possible for conversations to be assembled from individual posts that have such a 'quote mention' inline. It would also allow for multi-quoting (you can probably tell how my interest in this arises :) ).
Possible problems:
With complex multi-quoting, it might generate dependency chains which might break the system, e.g. if for a joke I multi-quoted 27 posts which in themselves quoted a lot of posts, and so on. This could be got around by imposing a sensible limit of multi-quotes, e.g. 10, or by not delving into a post's conversational entanglement too deeply unless someone clicks on a 'branch'.
It might also make this incompatible with the Markdown syntax by introducing a feature which doesn't exist in Markdown.
Also, as the content of posts would have to be scanned for inline mentions, it would make the system slower (although this could conceivably got around by scanning the post when it's posted and then adding the quote references to the post's external parameters.
Oh well, this may well dig too deeply into Microcosm's intended functionality. I'd much prefer this approach, though.

Posts per page is preset.
Right now it's really hard-coded into the forum.
We have part of the code to make it an option... but it's not fully thought out. The gotcha was always that if Person A has 25 posts per page, and you have 50, and they share a link... the link went to the wrong page. Before I make it an option, this stuff is going to work properly.

Oliver,
You are over-thinking it.
The big missing thing from vBulletin was that you never knew that someone had replied to your comment.
The quotes didn't do this, the vBulletin logic of who had replied to what didn't do it.
The reply functionality is just that... a way to trigger a notification that your post has got some response.
The quoting was a separate thing. With the increase font size I was hesitant to encourage past behaviour where people copy these enormous long posts verbatim. I had no good way to stop that stuff. And with the permalink pages showing the comment that this is in reply to, and any replies to this... it seemed a little superfluous. I knew Markdown already did quotes in the email style. So ultimately it came down to a question of whether it was essential and critical.
I didn't have a great answer to that... but figured I'd wait and see.
On the other forums running on Microcosm, this hasn't been mentioned because it's not been an issue.
But on this one, well... it's day one and you've all been used to vBulletin functionality for 5 years.
Even though I tend to agree there's still a need for something that helps provide better context for responses... I'm going to give it time before I do anything about it. Rush hacks may be my forte but I want this product to be really good and not the product of rush hacks.
