  • Thanks. These were all around Newcastle, up the coast and Hexham

  • Ah ok then, a few of them looked like some places I know in Cork.

  • indra, im currently looking at the mk iii of the 690, i'm extremely jealous! but i may have someone who can buy one in hong kong for me and then bring it back, guessing you ebay'd it?

  • Yeah man, I ended up paying about £230 all in.

Dropped some film at jessops but apparently they don't scan 6x9...

  • Where in London will scan 6x9, preferably same day/hour service?

Not having much luck finding places.

  • T4 Superia 200:

    OM1 XP2 Super 400iso:

  • Lovely shots!

Came here to post that calumet on wardour st have some sort of error where they're charging £14 for a 5 pack of 400tx 120

  • indra mate, i was in eyeculture in bethnal green earlier and asked about scanning for 6x9 they said it would be 6.99 a roll but they usually take a couple of days (they must have a quick service too but i always just pay for the cheapest.

i'm so glad you mentioned it as i hadn't even thought about developing when looking for the fuji 690, the place i usually send 120 off to in brighton says that they can only do it on a flatbed scanner for £20 a roll for 20mb files. or £2.50 a frame if i select what frames i want scanning from a contact sheet.

out of interest what made you go for the mki over the mkii or mkiii?

  • Cheers, I'll pop into there at some point. Afaik they don't do a quick service as such but before I've specified for it to be next day or same day if possible and they often agree for the usual rate.

Just bought lots of film for Ireland tomorrow, so excited.

Went for the mki because it was cheaper, had a removable hood and no shutter button lock.

  • fair enough, was just seeing what your insight on it was as theres not all that much info on them compared to more popular cameras, i'm excited to see what you get from it! had my heart set on one for a while now.

  • awesome black and white shots nefarious!

  • Got one roll back but they're shit test pics and only scanned as 6x6.

Hopefully soon I can shoot some massive slides through it, can't recommend the ski enough, lens is fabulous and it's a grew camera to use.

  • awesome black and white shots nefarious!

The roll was a bit disappointing on a whole tbh. Loads came out really murky, neither deep blacks or clear highlights - which is surprising considering you usually get them without fail with xp2 super.
I don't know if it's user error when shooting, scans or developing that has caused the problem. What confuses me is that I'd expect under exposure to have lots of blacks and over to have blown out highlights but neither seem prevalent.
Some of the frames are also darker on the right hand side. I wonder if this is something to do with the focal plane shutter sticking at high speeds.
    EG:

Frustratingly, the image seems quite sharp - the grass seems pretty detailed for example.
The levels are also a bit odd, dead at either end, dead in the middle.

    Any ideas?

  • It could possibly be your scanner acting up, what are you using?

  • Lab's scans not mine.

  • Ah maybe worth checking the negs to see if you can see the darkening on there too.

That said it does also look to me like the level of detail and sharpness trails off, especially in the grass with it so it might be your shutter partly underexposing.

  • I have a question too now that I've remembered.

I finally shot and processed some of that expired superia 800 that I bulk loaded and the first pictures I took have odd red marks in the shape of sprocket holes and lines, what do people think could have caused this?

There seems to be a progression from this as the beginning.

    to double

Then back to single with the addition of a line

    And then just line

Before stopping completely; I just wanna find out what caused this so I don't do it again because I'm really liking how crazily grainy this film is.

  • thats very strange! trying to wrap my head around a logical way that it could have happened but i cant think of anything!

  • maybe it happened in the developing stage

  • Maybe, my only other thought is that the bulk loader may be leaking light, leading to exposures thorough sprocket holes?

  • Maybe, my only other thought is that the bulk loader may be leaking light, leading to exposures thorough sprocket holes?

    That's what I thought.

  • Yea, me too.
Only thing I don't get is how there can be "just lines" (without sprocket holes above).

  • glad the superia works Indra :) that grain is pretty cool

As above - maybe try taping up all the edges of the loader?
Try doing the loading in a changing bag as well?

  • Cheers Dan, will give it a go next time.

Unfortunately I loaded 5 rolls to bring on holiday before noticing that I may be doing something wrong.

It is really nice film though

That grain and those greens <3

  • Yay just picked up a GR 1 for 100 quid...
    100 quid I don't have, but at least I have a GR1 again.
