^^^^I think when the gap was a couple of mins they thought he'd make it back on... then he stopped for about 5 mins and looked like quitting, then continued.
Either way, if he gets fit again he can go for stages. Not that I can see that happening but you never know.
It's almost been a victory for Garmin today anyway, the pathos, the suffering, riding over the line with the broom wagon hovering behind him.
