  • Yus mine was 4Gb

  • Finally?

    OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update
This update fixes an issue that prevented some Macs from automatically connecting to known Wi-Fi networks […]

  • Finally?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1754

Yep, fixed it, I've been running the beta seed for the last few weeks, no problems.

  • Just downloaded and installed, thanks for the heads up...

  • Awesome. Only took them a year....

  • Mac Mini 2.3ghz Quad i7 (with a separate 27" screen)

    vs

    IMac 27" 3.4ghz quad i5

    for InDesign, Photoshop etc.

Anyone give any reasons for or against either? - is the mini up to the job

  • I have the quad core mini and it's more than up to the task, though i'd recommend fitting extra ram and an SSD when you get it for even more speediness (i did it myself... super easy).

It's also more versatile than the iMac as you can swap out the screen when they bring in 4k monitors etc.

  • No graphics card on the mini means it will struggle if you ever want to play a game (I did, it wasnt toooo bad).
If you are buying both set ups from scratch I'd go for the iMac as it has more power, although I loved my Mini when I had it and it was dead good.

  • I'd go for the mini. Cause after two/three years you can can flog it, then buy a new one that'll be pimping, and re-use the monitor.

But I'd hold out a little longer if you can, retina monitors and retina iMacs due to drop soon.

  • Wish they would bloody update some product this year! I feel the need for a retina monitor...

  • OK -- I think this has been covered before but:

running an external SSD - all speed gains would be negated by the cable/interface?

When I get into speccing the mac mini the price soon jumps up - keyboard, mouse plus upping the RAM etc. If I wanted their 1tb fusion drive it'd be another £160 which seems steep.

  • DO NOT BUY RAM FROM APPLE EVER.
The fusion isnt a bad idea even at £160 I think.
You could get someone to add a full/proper SSD after you have bought it though... which would set you back less.
The current Minis they are selling are 2 years old already... I'd kinda hold off... they must release new ones soon... (I have been saying that for a year).

  • Yeah don't get apple to upgrade unless you have too, e.g. upgrading RAM in an Air.

Also has anyone got one of the Apple Thundebolt 27" monitors? Anygood? I'm tempted, and not really fussed about retina. Yet.

  • Love mine, Tom 6pt loves his too...

  • I miss my Mini a little. They are dead nice.
I have a 24inch pre Thunderbolt Display Ben, its dead nice... I imagine the 27's are even better, tried to buy one on Gumtree but the Canary Wharf working twat stitched me up.

  • I'm working in Canary Wharf today... :$

  • Was it you?

  • I doubt it... My 27" TB and I will be #2geva4eva...

  • Anyone know of a way of not paying 900 knicker for one? Ebay prices don't seem much cheaper, even with no warranty

  • I was so gutted about not getting a 27. Was chasing another and got too impatient and bought a 24 instead as I was second in line, then first in line guy stitched that guy up! DOuble stitch up! All the stitches.
Can I have a beer yet?

I found a couple on Gumtree for 500. I might sell my 24 if you are interested Ben?

  • Thanks, but don't they have shiny screens? Shiny is useless to me.

  • The old alu 30" screens goes for 450-500 on ebay. I'm sorely tempted to get one

  • May possibly sell my 2012 iMac 27inch in September if anyone is keen?

Moving back to Sydney, and wouldn't mind selling it to save me the hassle of having to courier back home.

    More info below:

    • 2012 iMac 27inch
    • i7 quad core
    • 16gb
    • 4 month Applecare warranty remaining

Will come packed in the original Apple and shipping box, just for kicks.

Ideally, would like around £800, but open to offers. Located West London, and will be available early September. PM if interest.

    Cheers,
    B1keme

  • Yeah, pretty glossy.
I loved my old 23inch but it feels like old tech compared to the newer 24.
Might be interested in your iMac... PM'd.

  • That was quick, replied.
