Can anyone help me identify this claud butler frame?
I picked it up last week from a guy who got it from a house clearance.
The original owner had been a very keen cyclist and it came with two sets of wheels: one was (large flange) campagnolo record hubs with tubular rims and the other was a flip flop hub clincher set (5speed and fixed).
The crankset is campagnolo record strada with 48/52 chainrings.
The drop outs are campagnolo. Apparently it was made to measure for the original owner.
It doesn't have a model name on it and the closest thing I've come across is a holdsworth super mistral from 1969.
Does anyone know much about claud butler/holdsworth? I'm trying to date it and get a model name if possible.
Thanks, matt

i picked up this Geoffrey Butler touring frame last week. it has a row of braze-ons running down the non-drive side of the bike. they start before the shifter braze-on and run to the dropout. same diameter as a brake or gear cable. any clues?
Dynamo -> rear lamp wiring. along the chain stay, up the rack leg, down the mudguard

Think i might have got to the bottom of my Olmo aging issue. I would believe its a 1989 built frame.
After extensive searching online ive come across this one which is different but the paint and slightly different decals. But the owner specifies its a 1989 frame.
Would anyone agree with my guess?

This makes sense and from doing a Google search certainly looks right.
The bike is something I picked up off ebay cheap and is fitted up with entry to mid level components from the 70's/80's
Its stickered up with J&M Cycles livery, but i contacted them and they said it would have been manufactured by a Wolverhampton based company called Knight Cycles. It certainly has their signature wrapover seat cluster you can see in this link.

It has english thread. The seller said was made by Arizona frame builder, but he isn't sure.

This is a great suggestion (or just cable from nds chainstay to mudguard stay) for what to do with these, whether or not the guides were originally intended for gear cables on an orbit type thing.
Could also be cables for a drag brake, such as are commonly found on tandems ... maybe if heavily loaded the original owner liked to have a friction levered brake.
The frame has a front derailleur mount so the Orbit hub seems less likely.

Really tried to find this out by myself online, such a basic question, but couldn't find an answer:
Is all earlier Campy Athena 8 speed?
There must be a complete list of all Campagnolo groupo's somewhere right? If anyone could point me in that direction, daddabegreat. -

Definitely not complete, but you might find some hints here
hay thanks Coventry eagle, that could be a logical suggestion. doubt i will ever get one of those set up, but interesting to learn about a system i never knew existed.
