I rode back to Ipswich last year and it's really not too bad.....the worst part was thinking you were going the wrong direction all the time.......I don't know why!
Instead of trying to mesh with the throngs, I went the other direction on the train to Cambridge first, then down on the Liverpool st line.....no hassle at all. -

Cambridgeshire's high point is 146m in Great Chishill (on my usual London/Cambridge/London route).
Essex has a point 1m higher but it's less than a mile from the Cambridgeshire high point.
I'm an astrophysicist, 100=146.

It's because you never got to see the Old Dunwich but had to turn back at the beach. The weight of history on your shoulders is constantly trying to turn your head and the ghosts in the waves are calling, calling ...

It's a magical ride.

For a second, I thought I had missed a bit off the end!
I'm gutted I can't do it this year..... The fox that I ran into and punctured on isn't though! -

Thanks Skully. Are you in this year? We never did finish talking about Milton Keynes town planning on November's Cambridge ride.
Yeah, look out for my bright dave yates (or light blue Mercian if I wimp out of riding fixed wheel - I have some joint pain after playing karma frisbee at the weekend).

The landlord from teh Queens Head in Brandeston has now gone very quiet - I'm presuming licencing issues at short notice and noise at 3am is maybe putting him off. Shame as a nice pub.

Hi all
I need a stoker, or if they want to take turns or ride on the front all the way, I don't mind, for the Dunwich Dynamo this weekend.
Could you spread the word on this, I have tried before to do the Dynamo, I drove down in my distinctive A-team van a few years ago to pick up some mates and throw free tubes to people who had punctured but life has always got in the way of riding it; I really want to do it this year, I bought a tandem specially!
I have had two stokers pull out on me for the Dunwich Dynamo this/last week so if anyone wants to try a good Peugeot gents/gents (but fine for a reasonably tall - 5 foot 6 and up I reckon, lady also) tandem with a reasonably fit 57 year old male (but young at heart as they say), please get in touch. I am a pretty experienced cyclist and motorcyclist etc so should be a safe pair of 'bars.
The tandem has been thoroughly serviced and tested, new tyres, brakes, chains, lights mudguard, tools, spare parts, etc, and has comfortable Madison saddles NOT racing saddles. Plain pedals but toe clips can be fitted if you want them.
I will be leaving a car at Dunwich this week so no worrying about getting back by coach or waiting around for transport etc.
I am based in Islington but ride the tandem to Clapham each day if that helps for meeting up for a practice etc.
It is much faster and less effort by tandem, half the wind resistance for one thing, and very sociable...

Rad. I know the yates - ride that. I'm on the Burls Ti Lo-pro fixeh with an improvised rear pannier for sandwiches. Probably also fluro booties if the forescast stays a bit rainy.

I'm no replacement for OLC's SE heroes but I'm in :)
I've been quite silly and booked a very conservative train [16:43] back from Ipswich. Depending on when I rock up I'll probably just pay for an earlier one back.
I'll keep an eye out for you on the beach. It's gonna be good :)
