I'm building up the same so we'll probably bump into similar problems.
I went for Alfine cranks as I've heard there can be chain stay clash problems with road cranks, especially if you're trying to run a road chainline. They aren't here yet, so I can't confirm, but just a potential warning.

How do the Pompetamine frames size up? I'm 6ft and am wondering what size would work best.
-

Interesting.
Im going to try my current cranks and see if they will work If not i'll have to look into buying something else. If ive measured everything thing correctly I should be alright.
However they are famous last words.
What rear hub are you using? Mine is standard track spacing so I need a 42mm chainline if running the hub centrally spaced.
With the messenger crank ive seen I should need a 103mm bb but I might get something slightly longer if this doesnt work and space it over a few mm just incase.thoughts/ideas/critisims welcome

im 6ft too. Going by sizing guide it should work fine and others have auggested this size from the Pompino thread. Find out in a few weeks once payday rolls around and I get the parts to build it.

Fair. You haven't mentioned what size you got, although I'm guessing a large with the 56cm top tube?

Good point Id assumed id mentioned it. Yeah Large :)

I'm going single speed with a 135mm MTB disc hub. Fixed would have to be with a Surly 1x1 hub with 6 bolt disc, but I think that chainline could be a problem with the 1x1. SS with an existing wheelset first then I might build an appropriate rear later.

Thats my plan too when i find the right hubs and can build up a set of disc hubbed wheels. Until then im going to try and make the current wheel set work. Ive got a front hub waiting.
But funds are tight and my current frame is very much on its way out sadly :(

Bunch of parts ordered last night to get this bike running as my bombproof fixed commuter until I can get some disc hubs for it.
So far totalling out at only £70 on parts. Thrifty.
FSA Pig head set
103mm Stronglight BB
Brev Robusto forks. Looked solid and £20!!!! http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/frames-forks-c6/rigid-forks-c51/brev-m-robusto-700c-rigid-fork-p2628Also bought some new clips and some double straps.
Might invest in some new pedals and a seat soon too.
On the scout of a single left side 165 crank arm or a bargian bucket crank and a front brake caliper.
Anyone got anything going cheap ? :)
Cant wait for these parts to arrive and get this wagon rolling finally.

I've got some worn and basic but complete and working external bb FSA cranks going for a fiver
-
• #12
I dont think an external bb will work on this bike?
-
• #13
^ why not? Does it put the chainline too far out at the front?

Alfine Crankset with Hollowtech external BB fits lovely: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7NeDNWJa6Qw/U63avFI4huI/AAAAAAAABj8/KLT1xgWiITg/w1180-h885-no/IMG_20140622_163624.jpg

For the moment it will kick the chainline out of whack I believe. But once ive got a new rear hub I might look into this.

My current cranks are dying. Wobbling!!!!! Not good.
As a replacement im looking at these
http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s109p3051
seem to be just like Sugino xd cranks. Should work nicely SS/Fixed or running a double is I decide to mess about with putting some gears on for touring. Ive got a couple of 110 bcd chain rings kicking about so hopefully one of them works.
Any thoughts welcome.

Could anyone recomment any good "cheap" pedals that are compatable with double toe straps?

Check out the offerings from VP Components. They are surprisingly good for the money, and the ones I've used with sealed bearings really stand up to foul weather.

Final piece of the puzzle should finally be arriving today!!!!
Forks!
After days of failed attempts to deliver from a really crap courier company. I wont be using Triton Cycles again for mail order as the couriers they used called APC suck
I hope Ive not forgotten anything stupid

Bike built and the weather changes and pisses down for the last few days not idea for a white bike.
Thinking might invest in some mudguards. Anyone got any suggestions on decent ones?
I want to test it out in the dry.
Already thinking with the straight forks I need a longer stem. Its a little twitchy with these bars.
So on the spur of the moment I recently bought an On One Pompetamine frame and am now planning to turn it into my all weather machine.
The plan is to move as much from my current bike over to it to get it rolling then upgrade as I find the parts as budget is tight so it will be a process of bargain hunting.
eg wheels and disc hubs/brakes
This should then allow me to restore the Olmo frame im currently riding and slowly killing.
So far the parts im planning to move over are
bars
stem
Cranks - Sugino RD 42t
Wheels - origin8 120mm spaced rear hub velocity rim.
In theory the wheel should go in to ride fixed if i space it right as the frame is 135mm and get the correct chain line until i can source some disc hubs at the right price to build some wheels.
So the first things i need to find are forks and the right size bb to give a 42mm chainline i guess
