Texting While Driving - On the phone drivers!

  • With those fancy phone we have nowadays, it's probably better to record a video, as one can easily claim he was parked.

  • A while back I saw a dustcart driver reversing in to a yard by a block of flats with a phone clamped to his ear. I reported him, he got told off, I got an apology from the council and that was that.
Then back in March I saw the same guy driving down my road, while his colleagues collected the bins, using his phone again. I reported it, only this time he denied it.
The council did send a memo to all drivers about using a phone while driving. It said that anyone caught using a phone would be disciplined. The driver though was not disciplined.
To my astonishment the same driver drove past my house two weeks later with the phone to his ear for at least two minutes, all the time he was in view.
I of course reported it, and this time it was escalated to a more senior manager.
Today they wrote to me and told me that as there was no evidence there was nothing they could do, so I have complained again and asked for it to be escalated.
No evidence. Do they think I was making it up? Did they check his phone?

the old adage of pics or it didn't happen stands true here

  • tldr;

  • Just be careful filming people on their phones while they are driving, they get quite angry about it for some reason…..

  • was going to add don't do it near your own home, do it a street or two away
if you wind them up you could get some rotting fish posted through your letterbox

  • That girl in Stralya, unbelievable. 9 fucking months driving ban and no jail time. And she's been drink driving soon after hitting someone whilst careless driving and giving them spinal injuries. Depressing

  • IMO the council would have no right to check his phone and could be entering into dodgy employment law territory. Better to persevere with complaints process and/or get a video of him next time.

Don't let it become an obsession though, out hiding in the bushes a street away ready to pounce with your mobile cam and get the shot.

By sheer chance I just happened to be in a vantage point with a camera today

It was actually quite amusing watching him fidgeting about without a phone.
Till I fell out of the tree.

  • now you are just stalking the poor guy

what did he ever do to you

  • Stole all that stuff he was storing outside his house.

  • Report it to the police instead of the council?

  • Ms O'Brien's car crossed over the road and collided with a people carrier on a dual carriageway outside the lodge at midday on Saturday. It emerged that Ms O'Brien may have been texting seconds before the fatal collision.

With her own children in the car.

  • One of the many reasons I hate using the bus when forced to is that you can see right into most cars and see just how many people are using a phone. Over the weekend witnessed a bloke who blocked the bus out of pure stupidity on a road with cars parked on both sides. There was more than enough room for him to pull in to a gap between parked cars but he didn't. Thought it was a bit weird until the bus squeezed past and I saw that he was tapping away on his ipad, propped on his leg, and not paying a bit of attention.

  • Sat on the M25, but of congestion, nothing serious.

Actually lost count of driving with their phone on their hands.

But terrifying to imaging what would happen if one didn't look out properly.

  • Wanted to pull out of the 'bike lane' to take the flyover westbound yesterday at Bow. I shouldercheck and there's a car a fair distance behind but I'm not certain its safe so I stay in the lane. Fucking glad I did too, as the car comes past I see that the two front seat occupants are bent over a phone screen and paying zero attention to the road. Shit like that boils my piss. Watch the road, for fuck's sake, please watch the road.

Would be good if they showed that ad on during somkething like Coronation street or the world cup. Might make people think a bit.

  • Actually...

  • I reckon with no actual evidence that a lot of phones aren't checked by the old bill after a crash and a lot of phones get hidden or chucked because they're incriminatory.
