Can anyone recommend a good steerer compression bung that doesn't weight a ton and actually works?

take it out when you don't want the extra weight?

Use one that works (I've never had any problem with the Cannondale one) then tighten your stem up and remove it... instant weight saving.

Stunning build! Good job, Tychom!

Samson is a bang tidy build, but are the bars on back to front? It looks like they sweep ever so slightly forwards on that first pic, although it could quite easily be perspective?
-

^ I thought the same

Just perspective, they're B201s, totally flat. I could probably tilt them back a bit but at the moment they're as vertical as can be (as both the bar and stem are etched), would be quite a noticable difference I think if they tilt them back to the next notch, not necesarily any better. I think generally a bar with more sweep would look better.

Some sweep would probably be more comfortable.
Very pretty bike. I feel sorry for the rear veloflex though :)

Samson is pr0n!

Lovely Samson!
I've got a small non-project to report. When attempting to recover a vintage Flite saddle, the leather needs to be pretty bloody thin. Or maybe I'm just crap at smoothing out overlapping creases. D'oh! Upshot is, the Concor's gone back on the Ron Cooper and I think I prefer it (aesthetics and comfort) anyway.

Well done Tychom! That's a beautiful bicycle.

• #94346
Yeah that Samson is bang tidy as someone said prior. Good job!
Got the exact same wheelset brewing heh. Didn't realize it before now. -

Beater build for those rainy days.

Yup, thin is best. less than 1mm. I usually get off-cuts from old leather jackets or similar. Makes stretching over the edges and smoothing the creases easier. I've found anything furniture grade is too stiff.
