No side opening. It's a total, fist sized pain in the ass trying to use the Ortleib without them. Looking for stuff requires camping somewhere and emptying everyone out. Threw you lights in there with other stuff? Good luck!
Sold it after a week. Got a Sag instead. Side zips, and a laptop/tech neoprene liner inside the already waterproof bag. Great stuff.
Also not made for walking. That style bag are a bastard to walk in when packed.
