Cheers for all the advice fellas. I'm no expert on frames hence the questions...... So who's got a SSCX frame for sale? Or can anyone recommend a good starting point?
Cheers
If you diverge form the vintage steel line of thought why not try a pompino. frame set costs £150

£650 sounds fair?
Specs are Hope headset, hubs and V twin; Velocity A23 wheelset; 4130 frame with Kinesis CXD full carbon fork; Thomson finishing kit; Rival GXP cranks with BB; Marathon supreme tyres.
Thanks but thats kinda above my budget just now...

Thanks guys but I don't really dig the Pompino, its not my favourite bike out there. Plus an XL is way to big, I'd probably be a medium
When I thought the frame was salvageable I bought a set of 1" carbon CX forks so I've limited myself to a frame with 1" headstock unless I use a headset reducer.

coddam, could you strech it to 56ish. Would have been all over it!

I still want the frameset, and you know no one will buy that due to that short top tube amey.

What are the crank options for the TCX SLR SS? It's pressfit BB86 which I'm
Not familiar with. I'm planning on stripping my current road bike to build up a bike around this frameset and later add a nice bike with 6870 but that can >>>>> for now.I've got a Rival double. Slapping the 39T on the outside and using an Absolute Black cog on the back is an attractive idea but I'd ideally like a set of XTR M970 or M980 cranks. How do I go about getting these to work?

You want to convert the TCX into a SS?
Press fit BB mean you can convert it into an eccentric BB;
-

No no no. This is a pressfit BB86 which apparently doesn't work with eccentric BBs. Not big enough I don't think. The TCX SLR SS has swinging dropouts though. It's similar but different to the TCX SLR frameset.

I'm not sure they'll put it into production.

Did not realised there might be a TCX SLR SS in the near future.

It's in production. It's listed on Giant USA website.

BB86 will take any modern cranks that aren't BB30 IIRC. I'm not sure if there's a BB86 to BSA adapter though - it might be physically impossible - so old cartridge systems like Square Taper and Octalink are off the table.
TLDR: no cartridge or 'true' BB30 road cranks. Not quite BB30 road cranks like S975 and Rotor 3D+ are still goers.
How would you get M970 to work? Use the standard BB86 24mm ID bearings and use some spacers to take out the slop.
Your resulting chainline and q-factor might be hideous, though. And people like me would ask 'why bother?'.
