  • If you email documents to your kindle email address (either .mobi or .azw) then you can download them onto any of your devices and they'll sync to furthest read (assuming you have connectivity). You only need to email it to one of your devices and it will appear in the cloud/archive for the rest.

I have two kindles and the android phone app and use this between the three. One thing to note is that it doesn't work with the PC app.

I use Calibre to convert/email as I find it easiest once it's set up but there's no need to do that, you can just send files from any email account.

Once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy, I'm somewhat surprised that Amazon offer that functionality as it makes it a lot easier to use non-Amazon books.

Personally, for the extra price, I wouldn't bother with the 3G paperwhite. I tend to have my Kindle loaded up with a load of books (you can get upwards of 1,000 on there) and, if I'm really desperate then there's generally wireless somewhere you can connect to.

And on another note, something I asked on the books thread:

Given that Amazon are flexing their muscles again (this time with Hachette) I think I'd like to occasionally start buying ebooks from places in addition to Amazon to, in a small way, chip away at their monopoly.

Any suggestions on other sites to buy ebooks from? I'm happy with converting, etc so don't have to be mobi/azw
