  • ^^ nice one

How come you're thinking of swapping to the Trucker fork?

considering making my pomp singlespeed and sticking v brakes front and rear but my forks are disc only, and I hate the stock Pomp fork.

  • Why not stick with disc front/V-rear, both will have the same cable pull (regular v brake levers or drop-v levers)

  • Yeah it's an option, I'm just playing around with ideas at the moment, dont have the cash to do anything yet.

  • Why not stick with disc front/V-rear, both will have the same cable pull (regular v brake levers or drop-v levers)

It would have to be a MTB disc brake to require the same cable pull, wouldn't it? My Shimano CX75 requires the same cable pull as road drop bar levers as would most CX disc brakes.

  • Why does everyone hate the pompino fork so much? I agree some of those above look better but is it really that bad?

  • I've learnt to tolerate it. Actually mine's the old Kaffenback fork but it's basically the same. I'm debating keeping it and getting low rider mounts or just getting the LHT fork when I PIMP MY POMP*.

That's correct, as far as I'm aware he's running a mountain BB7 on the front already so adding a v-brake on the rear and possibly an extra lever, or v-brake on the rear and set of drop-v levers are still the cheapest options (sub £25)

  • ^ correct.

  • Is this 1 1/8 threaded?

  • So my V4 pompino came this morning, Ive built it up briefly and I feel like it may be too small?

Im 6'1" and the XL would of been too big as the TT is long on the pomp, so I went for large. Reach isnt the problem, im just showing loads of post. I did want it to fot more like a MTB as its going to be built with risers and V brakes for commuting and thrashing around...

Just need to see how I get on with it.

  • Better to have lots of seatpost than be over-stretched because of a too long top tube. Remember it's a sloping top tube too, so will always look like a lot of seat post.

  • Is this 1 1/8 threaded?

    Yes.

  • It came! Yay. I'm the proud owner of a new Pompetamine frame.

I'd like to get it set up asap but sadly dont think Im going to be able to until I get a new rear hub.

Current wheel as on a 120mm spaced track hub the frame is 135mm

This just wont work will it???

  • Just space it out if the axel is long enough!

  • Or replace the axle.

  • That would work and not cause issues with chain line?

  • As long you spaced it accordingly, no.

  • That would work and not cause issues with chain line?

Equal spacing each side leaves the chainline and wheel dish unaffected.

    #maths

  • so in theory as long as i get the bb length right i should be quids in. Winner.

  • Just ordered a black Pompetamine. What's the best bet for a fixed 135mm rear hub with disc?

  • Not a lot. That is a rare hub. Very expensive phil woods is the only option I think. Maybe a surly one, not sure if it is 135mm though.

  • Yes it is 135mm, you're in luck!

  • I bought a pomp off the forum last week - for muddy fun, commuting and maybe a bit of cross racing in the winter.
It's a bit ratty and given that it's sitting in my studio in Hackney will probably drop it off at armourtex at some point this week. Current thinking is either some kind of bright orange, or just jet black.

Have bought some s500 levers, a set of mini-v's and have a bunch of crap wheels in the shed to get me rolling. Any advice on chainline etc? I was thinking of getting a 9 speed sora triple and using the middle 39t ring.

  • I'd love to see a madly bright coloured pomp since a lot of the resprays are nice and understated black/white/cream/khaki/grey/raw.

I'm thinking bright orange/yellow/Kawasaki green (not all at once). When I get mine resprayed I'm getting the rack done too.

    Ha, yeah.

Re. cranks why not just get a single ring one?

    1. I want external BB
    2. Sora's are cheap
    3. Sora's are black

If I want external BB with a single ring I either need to fork out for omniums or get some of those shimano alfine cranks - which are a bit pricey most places.
