There's another bike I look at and think "I could build one of those for commuto-fun" but then I remember I live in a rainy city, not the Australian outback :(

Not sure how effective this would be. I can imagine it just bouncing around and spending very little time in contact with the tyre. Like the idea though.

I can imagine that making annoying sounds that would drive me crazy in no time

What's it supposed to do?

take the crap off the tyre

Indeed, to prevent it from getting embedded, you can buy something like that from Compass Bicycles, thought may wear out a bit.

Couldn't you just run a thick zip tie with a cut out across the chain stay?

Thanks for the offer Pete but I'll skip on them. I want something that's properly slick, I rode Dom's ESB a few times, after all we lived together, and I could feel the drag quite a lot.

i need more than 35c

^^^^ Supremes tend to have that issue; last couple of times I faced it the dealer replaced them

Ok Jake, although I think you're better off with a cheap 2nd pair of wheels for the ECR. Even the Super Motos might be a bit small for those Rabbit Hole rims.
For example, the Maxxis Ardent is a 'proper' 2.4'' tyre and fitted here to a RH rim, it's not really putting the tread where it's designed to sit.
I realise the Big Apple/Super Moto tyre is a slick, but it still has some cornering tread to speak of.

In other news, what's the cheapest way to run 1 x 9 on a Cross Check?
I've had the stupid idea that I need another bike having seen Rich's project which I am mucho jealous of.
For drive train I was thinking of:
Deore rear mech
Deore 9 speed cassette
Jtek/microshift/shimano bar end shifterBut then crankset/chainring is throwing me. Do I get a mtb crank with a Wolftooth ring, or can something like Claris cranks be run single ring? I don't understand :-(

Since Emmy is thinking if going that route as well (guess its a catching idea!) I have it some thought and concluded I would favour a Alfine crank for a 1xn setup. Tester approved, external bb, has chainguard, is black. Alternatively for MTB cranks you can get a narrow- wide chainring cheaper from planet x. And I'm told that the clutch mech (ie sram) is more important I'm reducing chain drop than the chainring, bit I've no idea which mech have the clutch, how much they cost, and which shifters they need.

I think that's the cheapest clutch mech, though ideally I want 9 sp, not 10. I may just have to go 10.
the bottom half of the mount is on the seat tube and the top half on the seat post. it's perfectly secure.
