Mario Kart 8 is incredible.
Luigi Ridin' Dirty - Death Stare in Mario Kart 8 - YouTube
Yeah, I bought it but the controls aren't quite right... #supermariokartpro
Nah, the VC version of SMK is spot on as far as I can tell (unlike Super Mario World, which does seem to have a bit of input lag). But it's the 60Hz (i.e. American) version so the timing is a little different to the 50Hz version we oldies played 20 years ago. The muscle memory might require a little adjusting.
-
• #11482
Nah, you powerslide automatically on the VC version... It just doesn't feel right...
I put many hundreds of hours into SMK, I know what I'm talking about, bruv!
-
• #11483
Eh? Powerslide automatically? It's exactly the same as it was. It's the same code. And I really put a lot of time into that game, believe.
-
• #11484
Auto powerslide? What so you don't have to press the the jump button at the start of the turn? Hersey.
Love the Luigi clip. He was always my choice player.
-
• #11485
i thought you only did auto powerslide if you were on automatic transmission.
-
• #11486
In the original MK if you turn too hard for too long you start skidding (and eventually spin out), but it's not a powerslide in the sense that you can turn tighter/faster than you otherwise would, or that you get a speed boost if you time your exit from it properly.
If you launch from a jump (e.g. yellow panel or feather) and hold the hop button down as you land into a turn, it's a powerslide and you can exit it in the same way as any other powerslide.

The enemies look a bit silly...
I'm getting addicted to Day Z now. Had a good session with a pal until my mac started playing up (screen went odd).
Found an M4A1 the other day, with attachments, was soooo excited. Died of dehydration. Buzz kill. -

The Forest might be nice, but as of now I don't think it'll beat DayZ.
Thats a true shame Chris. You couldn't retrieve your corpse?

I'm not 100% sure... dont know if it was a bug but the only time I did find my corpse I was unable to retrieve anything from it...
M4A1 is my totes fave assault rifle too, gutted to have lost it.I just want a week of work to play this game.
But then I also want same week to ride my bike.
Tough decisions. -

Hah! Not sure when vehicles are coming to stand alone...
I also feel I want some more "goals" within the game rather than just survive... building shelter would be good and clearing out cities... not sure how it would fit in though.
-
• #11495
Yes to building shelter. I think that'd be ace - a bit like 'Rust'. And more goals in general. I think I'm a bit bored now and I've only had a successful day.
I had a couple of really shitty deaths from jumping off tiny ledges or tripping down a flight of stairs so I've been playing super carefully since this morning.
I got onto a good thing - spawned in the woods in north east near the small air strip, made my way into and lucked out and found tactical vests, combat trousers, raincoats (though still not sure about the real value of these), mountain bag, m4 with attachments, .45 acp with attachments, TWO canteens and the mother of all finds: a can opener.
Now I actually know how to operate things it seems really easy. I made my way west through a few towns, stopping at supermarkets, picking up cans of food and refilling canteens etc. I also read somewhere that you should just eat all the food instead of saving it for a rainy day:
Apparently you start with 2000 food in your system or something and then when you go below that you get 'hungry', but the upper cap is like 40,000 or something so you can just eat like a fat bastard and never really need to worry about starving again. Similar for water. Again this is 'internet' knowledge so no idea if accurate but I've eaten like 30 cans of food today and I'm 'energized', 'hydrated' and 'refreshed' or something like that. I also have loads of space in my bags for chunky M4 magazines.
I then spent an hour or so scoping out the big air/military base in the north west to make sure there were no bandits lurking. I then climbed on top of a guard tower and fired a few rounds into the air, bringing all the zombies for miles around running towards me, picking them off from safety. Then made my way into the camp and cleaned up on ammo, magazines, and other clobber.
I've now fitted both my pistol and assault rifle with silencers and given that I'm just lurking on the airfield I can see zombies running at me from a distance and use a scope to pick them off quietly.
One thing I'm surprised by is how far zombies can see you from. I was in the woods miles from any building in a little valley (so no real line of sight) and just by chance I turned round and saw something in the distance. I stayed watching it and it was zombie running flat out towards me. Also not sure whether zombies can open doors. It seems they can't and instead just run straight through walls and float around under the floorboards for a bit. Pretty sure they can't come up ladders though.
I still haven't found any long range rifles. I found an SKS but I was hoping for something a little more snipey. Maybe with a bipod? Possible?
Going to head to a more populated server soon and get social and see if that gives it more replay value.

Cheers, nice write up. Sounds incredibly easy though. This all happened in one day? I didn't think it'd be so easy to get all armed up and stuffed with beans. Keep us posted! :D

Sorry, wasn't making myself clear... I meant that using the Wii U gamepad your kart starts skidding as if you'd pressed the L or R hop button on a SNES pad, know what I mean? It put me right off... Will have to give it another go but it felt like they'd somehow tweaked the controls and ruined it in the process...
