  • The fork is more than the frame?

  • What was the cost for the teams that came second (aye aye), third or no podium?

  • Does it barspin etc...

  • I guess this are the prices considering the r&d and all... Like the £1,000,000 boardman bike. Once they started to produce it in larger scale people wasn't paying that much.
£10,000 for a helmet? I guess they are mortar proof :)

  • And £1,200+ (ex VAT) for the saddle? Always thought they were normal Prologo :)

  • "Prototypes and the use of equipment specially designed for a particular athlete, event or performance is prohibited."

how does that uci rule fit in with sram using prototypes at the tour of california?

  • did they use the wireless sram at the ToC? pretty sure you can buy the UK track machines... hence the ridiculous price list on the article

  • If it barspins, I'm in.

  • did they use the wireless sram at the ToC? pretty sure you can buy the UK track machines... hence the ridiculous price list on the article

yes, but you can't buy the wireless sram, and they're prototypes, hence violating the rule I quoted no?

  • track bike costs more than road? Hipster VAT still going strong!

  • yes, but you can't buy the wireless sram, and they're prototypes, hence violating the rule I quoted no?

I always thought UCI is happy to accept large amount of money to let brands produce "outlaw" parts. See the fairings on the pinarello bolide

No, it's just an arbitrary price set to follow the rules.

BT don't charge 100k for their bikes and I'm sure they're R&D is pretty decent. How much for one of those Kogas that cost a million to develop?

  • I always thought UCI is happy to accept large amount of money

    Bingo!

  • The costs make me sick

  • Gotta pay for your gold

There was discussion whether they were actually ridden in the race or just paraded around the pits and in the warm up

  • Team mechanics probably couldn't get them to shift so they went back to Shimano...

  • I was thinking about this the other day. I reckon it's a bargain given the recent changes to the hour record rules.

Hutch has been pretty snarky over Fabs having a go at The Hour, given that Trek will throw a load of R&D and tech at it which will diminish the achievement (sour grapes?). So, I was thinking, given that BSI or whoever makes these things have produced the best bikes that current tech allows within the confines of the various UCI tech regs, and now that the Hour record rules are 'UCI track pursuit bike', then anyone that wants a go can just put in an order for one of these and be on a level playing field with anyone else, regardless of how well funded. £100000 is a lot for a fixie skidder or for the odd weekend at Herne Hill, but for competitive sport at an international, record breaking level? A trifling amount. People spend more than that on cars to compete at the lowest level of club racing.

Given that the new rules also have rolled the actual record back a bit and the new current time is silly low (iirc, something like the top two dozen at the last road worlds(?) had an average that would have taken the hour record) someone with some cash can get in there quick before the serious contenders and easily (sort of) take one of the most prestigious records in all of cycling that would normally be waaaaaaay out of reach for them.

How's about it Hippy? Got a few credit cards you can max and the balls to step it up a notch? ;)

  • Unfortunately, no matter the quality of the bike underneath me, that Hour Record is untouchable with my feeble oxygen shifting capabilities.

  • Saddle£1,237.50

Erm - really - one of em in the picture looks like a bog standard Royce

  • This hour record is silly. It doesn't matter how much they spend on tech, it's still going to take 60 minutes!

  • Too many currencies in that article I didn't know what the fuck was going on

  • I thought the prices were set so high because the UCI rule doesn't mention price so they just set it astronomically high to stop the competition buying them.

Didn't the Germans try and buy a UKSI bike or the Brits try and buy a FES and after a while the emails stopped being answered etc?

Mavic deny the existence of the Olympic spec discs.

The riders are all doping anyway so who gives a fuck?

  • Mavic deny the existence of the Olympic spec discs.

Of course they do. They weren't made by Mavic. EIS copied them with higher tolerances.
