Have the frame with me now. Yep, he re-installed the same bearings, after pushing them too far into the frame and bashing them out with a hammer and small metal rod. Looks fucked to be honest. The grooves where the circlips insert are all chewed up, and there are chips on the smooth surfaces where the bearings sit.

What a fucking shambles. Please PM me and let me know who it was? Given the mess the wrench made it's unlikely they'll be a Cannondale dealer which potentially will make the process of getting a replacement somewhat agonising.

If / when they do pay for it please keep hold of the botched one if you can - it's likely the shop will bin it which would be a sad end for a nice friend. It could probably still be converted to BSA or tidied up and run as intended.
