Condor have the pedals - would give them a call about the cleats before taking time out to head down there though.

I'll be passing them later anyway, so no dramas.
Thanks guys.

As there isn't one, I thought I would start a thread about everyone's favourite lollipop shaped pedals. I've been riding with Speedplays for about a year and they are proper grand.
I've got a few questions anyway.
A) Does anyone ride Speedplays brakeless in the street? How do they hold up?
B) Who are the go-to guys for aftermarket Ti spindles, and how easy are they to fit?
C) Has anyone used the Northwave adaptor plates? They look lower-stack than the adaptors that come with Speedplays.

A) all the time, on my road bike ;) they're probably not that great for everyday/commuting because the cleats can wear down and they're much more expensive to replace than others
B) have to be careful, there's a very good company in America that i'm going to be putting an order in with soon but speedplay get very touchy with aftermarket bits for their pedals and I don't want to bring attention to the company that might mean they have to stop making them, other than that you can get cheaper j&l ones i think...

Ho rides his around brakeless and don't seem to have any problems.
I've ridden mine brakeless a bit, but it's usually while on my way to the velodrome so can't skid anyway as the tyres will die. They are certainly secure enough, the only downside is when stopping at traffic lights, if you press down on the pedal as it comes up to slow down it is very easy to clip in by accident. -

Maybe it's time to get ride of the ATACs and institute the the one-shoe solution.

I wouldn't use them for commuting though, the cleats are a fucker to walk on. I need to get some of those keep on kovers
-

The Keep on Kovers totally change the system - I rode Speedplay all through winter and the cleats were literally as new when I took the covers off to swap onto my summer shoes.
You can walk in them absolutely fine, also - you'll never want to go back once you've tried them.

I've got some regular covers, I was thinking of dremelling out the central area and turning them in to DIY covers.

I don't commute. I've already got Speedplays on the Cannondale, and I'm buying some new shoes which should fit a little better. I don't really mind walking in them, obviously they're not ideal, but no cycling shoes are.

I've got Frogs on the road bike. There fucking great. Light as a feather clip in and out, but I've never come loose when I didn't want to. Tonnes of float and cleats that from a mechanical / walking on perspective I can't really see ever wearing out.

I really like my Speedplays and if you don't think the normal ones are secure enough you get a track spring set that have a even tougher and tighter spring but I've just got the normal road ones and they are magic.
As said they are a total bastard to walk in but you can't have it all ways. Although that thread of weight weenies put me off for the way speed play were being right and proper counts...

Does anyone know if you can by the pedals separate. I want to get them for another bike but really don't see why I should have to buy a whole new set of cleats every time.

This. They are proper amaze. Totally transform the experience of speedplays for the better.
Now go buy some. Or yah, make some ghetto ones.
Didn't Dammit document the Ti spindle upgrade in his SystemSix thread?

Ebay mate, I've seen loads of sets go on there.

Yeah I thought that might be the case. I love my Speedplays though. Feels like the pedal is at one with your foot.

Does anyone tour with speedplay frogs?
I've atacs right now but think frogs would give a wider platform for better comfort.
How do the frogs compare with normal speedplay for use? As I like my speedplay but they'd get dirty even with keep on covers touring.

A friend of mine managed one ride on Frogs before selling them. They don't have a 'clip-out' restriction, so you just kind of twist your foot until you're not attached any more? He didn't like it, and got rid of them instantly.

Dbr on here used frogs for quite a while.

Bit marmite from all accounts.

Sagan's speedplays from stage 5
Are these commercially available?

Yes. Pave version.

for a million quid
Does anyone know where I can buy speedplay frog cleats in central London? Evans and CS seem not to carry them, judging by their websites. Do Condor stock them?
Just realised that I am being a twat by riding with worn cleats and I DO NOT WANT a bum like Clive's.
