^^ I'm surprised you find it one-dimensional. The character of Jonah, and of his very young freind, are I think very nuanced, both funny and sad. It's brilliantly acted. I'm not sure he's reliving his own childhood, sure there are universal traits among young boys that he has his own experiance of, and alot of fiction begins with personal experience, but the whole race issue I doubt is something he experienced in the same way, being from a white middle class background.
