Eureka.
But, like all things, only up to the point before it becomes impractical/uncomfortable/unhealthy.
But why worry about diet, exercise, lifestyle and training when you can apparently 'buy speed'?
I meant by that in addition to exercise etc, rather than just get off the sofa and drill out a 19 minute 10 mile TT with your fantastic "speed weaponry", then go back to eating lard and smoking unfiltered Capstan Navy Strength.
My point was that if you take two people of equal size, with an equal watts/kg output, then the one with the most aerodynamic profile will have an advantage- possibly a considerable one.

I know, it wasn't a reference to your first use of the term, if you know what I mean.
Total aerodynamic drag is an important thing to reduce. But when I see the pictures of club TTs I know exactly what the riders consider to be 'aerodynamics' : Equipment.

True. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I have lost 2kg so far on my new "fat is slow" plan, 3 to go.
Then I'll buy the new wheels.

The other thing about being slim and flexible means you look the bollocks on your (correctly set up) bike. A fat mamil sitting upright with knees and belly sticking out will still look like a pathetic, weak excuse for a human being, even if he's on some fantastically expensive machine.
Even if the fat mamil beats you (unlikely), you still have the upper hand. No win no fee.

Here's another one: lose 5kg of fat or gain 5kg of muscle? Light weight isn't everything.

I think this only matters when you are very close to your lowest ideal weight. I was ill in Jan, and couldn't eat properly for 3 weeks - I lost over a stone, I thought I would be weak when I got back to riding as I would mostly lose muscle. In actual fact, losing that weight made me fly, comparing my time on climbs then vs now (have gained 0.5 of it back) I can see that clearly.
Wish I could do it again (without all the pain, vomiting etc obviously!)... but I think this only applies because I'm a bigger guy with a long way to go until I hit my ideal weight.

It's not as cut n dried as that really, most muscular exercise training will result in an increase in lean muscle mass whilst you lose fat.
Clearly with some people they don't see a huge difference on the scales, but the %of BF goes down and obviously the benefit of increased muscle is that you can use it to push the pedals around. -

This is a good article, with some time spent in the wind tunnel to back up the review:

If you're happy to trust people who think grams are a unit of force, and power - force = speed...

Good point, some value in the tests as long as they were consistently applied to each wheelset though, I would think?

I don't understand: why no skin suit?
-
• #123
It's 3500 miles across a bunch of terrain, temps and weather. Skinsuits aren't the most practical thing to use when clothing changes are needed.

What about a really lightweight jersey that he doesn't have to unzip?
