    Build confirmed for Friday. Excited.

  • There's some NOS Time Slice Crabon forks on ebay at the mo. Noice.

  • Had to take a sick day today from work. Spent my time building this:

Before anyone mentions 'bars down levers up' - no. The bars are in the same position that Scherrit recommended and I've put the levers in the best position for riding in the drops. If the lever angle needs to be changed then I will change them.

  • Looks great, where did you get the king cage? Looking for some myself

  • Both king cages. Got both at condor. Think they're sold out now. Only got the iris because the normal one had sold out almost straightaway. Kinoko definitely had some.

  • Ah thanks will go have a look

  • Did you use Cannondale's star nut or a expander bung for the forks? I'm looking into replacing my slice forks with a full carbon Slice Premium.

  • Always use an expander, never star nut.

  • Vertically stiff + Laterally compliant vs Laterally stiff + Vertically compliant?

CAAD 9 vs CAAD 10 - Which is 'best'?

  • Always use an expander, never star nut.

I've heard that the slice premium forks come stock with a star nut and a special top cap assembly. I was specifically asking because it looks like the steerer on that fork has been cut down so perhaps it didn't have a starnut anymore?

  • My premiums use an FSA expander with an SI top cap. It's no different in function to a standard expander. I'll check tonight though

  • I've wondered about that too. A CAAD8 I bought in 2007 had a premium full carbon fork and that came with a star nut pre-installed. This wasn't done at the bike shop, so for some reason Cannondale seemed to think it ok to use :-/

  • Did it have an alu sleeve? That's how wound-ups get away with it.

  • It's stored at my Uncle's place, but I'll have a closer look the next time I'm there.

It did strike me as a rather basic error for them to make, but seeing as it's still gathering dust, I doubt it's currently endangering anyone :-)

  • Vertically stiff + Laterally compliant vs Laterally stiff + Vertically compliant?

CAAD 9 vs CAAD 10 - Which is 'best'?

Anyone got a 52cm CAAD10 they can lend me?

    #Canverifyfindings

  • Yes I can lend if it benefits SCIENCE

  • tdm - most likely yes, unless he's changed it since purchase as I sold the frameset to him :)

barenecessities, cannondale are right, they have their own propietary system that is star-nut in carbon steerer, probably a specially designed star nut though, they have a special top cap too that fits very tightly inside the steerer and I imagine this helps even out stresses. Cannondale actually advise against using expander plugs in those forks; though it is quite hard I imagine to get hold of the right pieces (star nut and top cap) from Cannondale as the forks are now outdated :(

tl;dr: you have to find cannondale's special own ones

In other news, my caad10 is going to be arriving on Monday from 'Murica, whooo :)

  • ^ Cheers for that! It does have that tight fitting, deep topcap you describe. I'd wondered if that was to prevent damaging the steerer through overtightening of the stem.

I'll get round to selling it one day. It's nice to know I won't have to scrap the fork :-)

  • outdoor pic with a new lighter saddle

  • That's a lovely bike Enyz, but why did you pick this frame for a WW build?

  • It's a WW build? Thought it's just trying to look slavery.

  • 6.6 at last weigh-in, I believe.

  • I chose this frame for my WW project because for me it's aesthetically appealing (C'dale track fetishism of course), stiff and, last but not least, light too, atm it's around 6.5 :)

  • Fair enough!

Surely some full-carbon forks and a light a-head stem would save a couple grams?
