  • This surprises me to the point of questioning the accuracy of the figures. Admittedly I only know the NHS in London but thousands of management posts have been axed in the last year. 150 middle managers from just one organisation. The best thing is, nobody noticed when they left. Sickening to think how much money had been spent on a load of people doing nothing for so many years. Also, its against the NHS constitution to have performance related pay...what are these bonuses that they talk about?

    There is a a Very Senior Manager's Pay scheme with performance related pay in it for DH + PCT Ambulance + SHA+/NHS England staff not for Hospital Trusts and Foundation Trusts staff.

    The Clinical Excellence Awards are paid to consultant medical staff in recognition of exceptional contributions to the service and also fall under the all encompassing "bonuses" the Mirror refers to
