That's norra lens. THIS is a lens.
Went to B&H yesterday to check out the current crop (get it?) of small-ish mirrorless shiny black things. No IQ tests, but the physical feel of Sony cameras completely shits on the likes of Fuji, and even the Lumix GX7 was a disappointment - such an awkward-feeling camera, with a sticky-out EVF to catch on your clothing.
That RX1/RX1r is insane. The most desirable compact camera of the last 10 years, imo. Effing well should be though, it's nearly $3,000.
If the RX200 (or whatever it's called) eventually looks like ^^^^that, expect a waiting list. -

Anyone on here got direct experience of the Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM or the Voigtlander 40mm f2.0 Ultron SLII on a full-frame Canon body?

Direct experience with the canon 40mm STM on a 6D.
It is my standard lens for pretty much everything. I mostly use it for portraits and as a general walk around and has been pretty much permanently attached to the camera for a year.
Its razor sharp right out to the very corners from f/3.5 but has a lot of vignetting at 2.8 which can actually be nice.
Colour and contrast are excellent and there is very little chromatic aberration.
Just have a look at the photozone.de review where you can see how it compares with others. Also, a shitload of stuff on my flickr is taken with it.

Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM - yes.
It's a great lens.
Image quality is very good. Sharp, bit of vignetting.
Fast and almost silent AF.
Small, light, and inexpensive. -

Thank you. It appears that the Canon is an absolute no-brainer at $150 vs $480 for the Voigtlander (which actually fares worse in many of those tests).

My main gripe with it is the slow autofocus compared with most of their other lenses but its not really an issue and hasn't gotten in the way much.

Transformer Sony is very cool, but boy would I be scared of using it outside of a padded room.

This made me laugh,
they are definitely a new source of camera envy currently -

Not been following this thread lately, so this might have been mentioned already.
Nikon will now be happy to replace the shutter unit of the D600s if you want / need to. Just spoke to the guys from fixation, their advice is to carry on using the free sensor cleaning service Nikon provides for D600s only until Nikon stops doing it, then ship the camera back to have the shutter replaced.
I have to say I haven't actually noticed mush dust spots, as in nothing more than I would expect from any other DSLR. I merely wanted to get the free sensor cleaning provided from fixation which has to be used within a year of purchasing the camera... happy days if I can carry on getting my sensor cleaned for free...

I heard nikon were swapping D600s for D610s if you kick off enough.

Only after swapping the shutter and the issue still persists... I don't see the point in it even if it was possible, they are pretty much identical anyway, and I bet the shutter they replace with is the same as the one in D610s.

Can anyone recommend me a good ultra wide to wide zoom lens to fit on a canon full frame body?
I'm looking to take on a pretty large project next winter so don't mind saving for something that will last and handle snowy weather well. I've been looking at one of these.
It seems to tick all my boxes but I figured I may as well ask here as you guys might might be able to recommend something cheaper or better.

Looks like something cheaper than an L lens won't cut it..
-
• #6797
That's kinda what I was thinking, it doesn't have to be bulletproof but yeah it's gonna be used properly up a mountain.
I did see that 16-35 but that's likely gonna be a little hard to justify unless it somehow manages to be completely superior to the 17-40 as it's over twice the price right now.
-
• #6798
Indeed..
..guess resale value will be a lot better though, assuming you want it just for that one project.
-
• #6799
It'll get a lot of use, especially if the project goes well. I guess if by the time I'm buying that 16-35 has some raving reviews I might spring for it. It'd mean pretty much no bike stuff though :( I hate having to manage expensive hobbies.

Has anyone had experience of the Samyang lens? More specifically the 35mm F/1.4? It's considerably cheaper than its 'L' series counterpart but i'm wondering whether this is for good reason?
Not a huge fan of EVFs yet, but that camera looks really cool.
