Er, no. Too many of them.
Better off buying a 993 or a 964.
There is at the moment, but they're dropping like flies. The 996 may have been mass produced but that didn't magically make it the equivalent of a VAG or a BMW. It still needs 911 care, of which 50% of owners didn't provide, which is why they're now worth about £12k.

Tell you what though, my mum's C220 with Avantgarde trim is marginally more comfortable long distance than the 996. Who the fuck though plastic was an acceptable material on a doorcard armrest? 2 hours 'in the saddle' and I've got a sore elbow.

If I wanted to drive everywhere with my hands at 10 and 2 I would have bought a Rover 75.

It seems like nice E30's are getting more expensive every time I look, what alternatives are there? Been looking at Merc w201, more auto than manual but still a few out there
What other options are there for 80s/90s box-pervs?

Audi RS2 Avant?
-
• #19857
I think you could probably buy four Merc 190 Cosworths for the price of an RS2.
I was thinking more Saab 900 classic, Volvo 240, Volvo 850 T5, W124, E28, Lancia Delta (non-Integrale), Mk2 Golf. -

i'd love a saab 900 if anyone is selling.

Boring. RS2 or GTFO.

• #19861
Ah yes forgot about Saab, nice. I would love a Lancia Delta but a bit out of my range I think :) Will look at the Golf too, cheers

Not sure if I'll get anything yet. I'm a notorious ditherer with stuff like this. I'll happily drop similar money on a bike, but cars and motorbikes worry me - it feels like they're always dangling a financial Sword of Damocles over my head, what with potential repair bills and the like.
Sparky, never ask car people about buying a car. It's like asking about bicycles on the internet.
But since you asked - it sounds like you need nothing more complex than a box with 4 wheels. Either something extremely common like a Ford focus or like the above video, an old volvo.
I know nothing of buying cars in the UK but something similar?

z350 vs towing e55
They'll all take it in turns. 5 years ago the 964 was everyone's least favourite 911. Now they're more expensive than the 996 and 993. I'm going to make sure my dad doesn't sell his 996, I'll make sure it's always kept maintained, and hopefully by the time I get my hands on it I'll be quids in $$$$.
