is the V3 pomp the same as the new version in requiring a 68mm, English threaded BB?
yes.

• #3853
nice one, thanks!
-
• #3854
If it was would they dare admit it?
Heh. I laughed at this. Have some rep.
Four spoke spinergy spoks make me cry.

• #3855
^ my first thought too and totally agree about the spinergy spok.
So many things about that build are wrong, but I can't stop looking at it. I think I kind of like it but I feel dirty for thinking that.

Just ordered a V4, having been fixedless for quite a while. Looking forward to building it up, though mostly with the old parts from my V2 that cracked.

You could have had my Pompetamine Steve. It's under a layer of dust in the shed.

• #3858
Doh!

So i'm thinking of getting a thorn disc fork for my pompetamine for improved mounts and all that. It's 383mm axle to crown with a 52mm off set and will take 40c tyres and guards. Sound like a good match? It does cost more than I paid on the frame which seems a bit silly.

mtb candy pedals FTW.

Surly Disc Trucker fork is a slightly cheaper option and matches the Pompetamine fork length.

^ What's the issue with the pompetamine fork?

Why not just get the mounts brazed on to what you have? Cheapest option if your not after extra clearance/changing geo

Yeh I've been looking at the disc trucker fork too. Want extra rack mounts than are on the pompetamine fork and my current p2 fork has too short a steerer so need a new fork. Was thinking that that the slightly shorter axle to crown and greater offset of the thorn fork will improve handling when I have a full porteur rack? Or is this unnoticeable? It's only 10mm for each dimension over the disc trucker.
-
• #3865
You'd be reducing the trail by about 25%. That's significant, but not something you can't easily ride around (especially with your new super-quick steering)

• #3866
Is the Pompetamine a good candidate for a 650b conversion? Is tyre clearance limited by width or height?
-
• #3867
^ What's the issue with the pompetamine fork?
I think it is not supposed to be compatible with 6-bolt discs, is centre-locking disc hubs only. Which in my opinion is an oversight on behalf of On-One.
-
• #3868
It works fine with 6-bolt 8" rotors on mine.
-
• #3869
Ditto mine, 6 bolt's fine. Was just the rack mounts ^^^^
-
• #3870
^ Maybe fouling of the mounting hardware for guards and racks is the reason On-One recommend centre-locks.
^^ I assume the disc size is irrelevant when it comes to fork comparability as the bolt circle for all discs is the same size. I could be wrong however.
-
• #3871
Yes, the bolts are on the same PCD, but there's still potential for there to be a limit on rotor diameter, especially with a fork like the Pomp where the legs are closer together at the top than they are at the bottom.

V4 arrived yesterday. Quite like the raw look.

TomvanHalen, any pictures of yours yet?

Got mine back in road mode with freshly resprayed fork.
Got round the Isle of Wight on it on Sunday. Pretty stoked.

Will grab some tomorrow hopefully. Entirely the opposite of that bad boy! ^
Yep (to the 68mm English thread bit)
