Just checking in now, had a great weekend camping/riding with Oli, Fox, Ludd, T4 and Hats. Great to meet and share some of the route with Jason (JDM?) and Pifko who were putting in a strong effort.
Fox, I'd recommend Mountain Equipment's Xero range, Oli has the 350 rated down to zero (comfort) and the one I had is the 550 rated to -10. They're a bit pricey though a cheaper, quality investment might be the Alp Kit Pipe Dream
See you all on the WNKR overnighter!

How you can tell someone has spent a weekend with Oli...

Great weekend. Was happy to be using my tent again even if it was a bit cold. You'll all be glad to know that two carvery meals in a row powered me all the way home, although it was probably slower than fasteddy.
8/10 banter, would camp again.
Not sure I want to do this ride again on the day, there's simply too many people I think. As others have mentioned, no shortage of choppers either. I'm sort of torn because it's great that so many take part, just that some of them aren't exactly courteous riders. etc. Would quite like to do it in a group on a different weekend and sample the islands may tea shops. Too tired to think of anything else hilarious right now...

I felt a bit like this too but I think taking a chunky rig with all your creature comforts is the way to go... Next year peeps!

That might have been me. Riding geared Cross Check with brown handlebar tape.
That sounds about right. I said something helpful like 'That's not fixed!' as I saw your LFGSS cap and gears. I was wearing something that resembles an Italian national champs jersey. If that was you then nice to meet you!

^Likewise. I had a feeling that might have been you. Cool catch you another ride soon.

I just realised that, after complaining about my FD all day, it was in fact a twisted RD that was causing my chain rub. Bloomin gears

That's what I tried, except I brought too many clothes. I want a smaller tent and mat for my next trip. @Corlis and @Fox what was the tent you guys had.
Panniers are the way to go but it does mean you can't bring your carbon or other road bike.

I think next year I'll be on http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3201

Despite complaining about not spotting anyone I have just remembered getting DASd on arrival at the Wooton check-point by a guy mostly in black and white. I should have gone over and said hi but it was the end of my ride and I needed a bit of time to chill before being sociable. By the time I'd adequately chilled you'd gone. Sorry.

He's definitely trying to make choppers happen...

I think we can let him off though as he did 250 miles fixed over the weekend :)

Thanks for that Ben, I'm currently deliberating, but there's no rush. Mountain Equipment Xero's obviously have the forum seal of approval though.

You all look too happy, can't have been trying hard enough.
And wot's choppers? Am I missing something? They sound awesome, where can I join?

nice pics Ludd, I'm amazed at how ridiculously small 700c wheels look on me, still holding out for 750c one day...

Chopper, Chugger, Bombaclut his choice insults to cyclists that warrant his disdain. Love that guy.

Nice photos Fasih, although I do feel guilty that there is one section of the ride where none of the rest of us appear!
Yep, great ride/weekend. Thanks all. Ludd/Jason/Pifko, good to meet/ride with you.
Hats the choppers are just nodders who have learnt to go faster :)
After I couldn't get on the train because there were no more bike spaces and the guard had locked the doors, I got on the next train but then came up with a cunning money saving plan, which involved changing at Woking then Clapham Junction, so my return trip only cost £11.50 but it took hours and I really wished I'd ridden :/
My other regret was not bringing a sleeping bag that was anywhere near warm enough! Oli/Tanya I think you had the same one, or at least make? I think it was Mountain Equipment, but I looked and their range is somewhat overwhelming...
